I know - sometimes shower curtains have the best patterns, but they're vinyl - boo! That's what took me so long to pick mine out - all the ones I found that I loved, up until the one I bought, were vinyl!
Even worse to me? Vinyl liners. They molest! I love our poly blend liner. We've had it for 10 years and it's still as good as new!
I agree with most of your peeves. I hate, hate, the curtain thing. If I did that, the bottoms would be nothing but cat hair! We have super long living room windows so it was hard to find long enougt curtains as it was without trying to find some to puddle on the floor.
Regarding the tv, that's how our living room is, but it's a small room, so I don't have a choice. Plus it is the room where we actually watch tv so I don't think it's so bad. It would be great to have another room (den, family, etc.) to keep the tv, but it's not happening in our house we have now. When we have guests over, we usually congregate in the kitchen.
Yeah, our living room is actually like this right now, because we inherited a small flat-panel and moved it back down there from the den, but I'm planning to make some sort of wall art that will open and close over it and hide it. I totally understand that this one can't be helped. However, there are those who CHOOSE to make the tv the focal point of the room!
I agree with most of your peeves, too. Although, I'm totally guilty of the loud and proud television as the center of our public spaces. *hides in shame*
The peeves that resonate with me the most are the unrealistic design ideas. If you're childless/petless/significant otherless, I can completely see white furniture, cleared counters, magnetless fridges and maybe even open kitchen shelving. For the rest of us, it just is not. feasible. at. all. And truly, HGTV should take note that I'd rather see a well done but realistic room than a museum showpiece any day.
You are so right about the open kitchen shelving. The grease is a huge thing! Not to mention all of your stuff being pretty enough to be out, organized enough to not look messy all the time, and cute enough to serve as your 'decor' in that room. I bah in their general direction.
