To evolve or not to evolve?

Hey guys, who else is still very much enjoying HG/SS? Anyways here's my dilemma. I've got my very first Poliwhirl for keeps on my team. But I'm still deciding whether or not I want to evolve it. If I do evolve it, I still don't know what I want it to evolve into. If you're a Poli-family owner, then I'd like to hear your input, especially about the ( Read more... )

question, evolution

I let this post go through because the first part is okay, buuuut.

In the rules: You can post ads to other communities ONLY with a moderators approval. Make note of what mod approved your ad, so that it doesn't get deleted by accident.

And in my modpost: ADS TO OTHER COMMUNITIES - as it says in the rules, you can post them with a mod's permission. And...I'm seeing a lot of posts that I know I didn't give permission to, and aren't noting heerosferret doing so either. From now on, I'm just going to delete these posts without warning. Memes and claiming things and stuff, by the way, are generally okay and don't need permission. It's advertising an actual comm that's a problem.

You can keep your post how it is, but remember that for next time.

You mean like just linking/suggesting a comm (like, "Oh hey maybe you should check x comm, you might get a good response there.")? Then that's alright. As long as it's not like randomly spamming someone in a comment, it's fine. :P

I think it just depends on what you're wanting to do with it. Politoed has higher special attack while Poliwrath has higher attack.

I'm using a Politoed on my team just because I like it. You could always make a choice based off that. :v

Not evolving it will just leave it weak. The longer it remains a Poliwhirl, the lower its stats will be in the end. I think Poliwrath is the better of the two evolutions. Not because I think it looks cooler, but because of its movepool and type combination. Politoed is a generic Pokemon. It's not bad, but not really good either. Just evolve it as early as possible.

The time you evolve it won't have that much of an impact on stats.
Just the moves it can learn.
If you evolve it too soon, it won't learn a lot of the moves it could learn.

Yes, the stat difference won't be night and day, but it can make a difference. Also, can't any missed moves be learned by the move re-learner character? Regardless, most of the moves people settle with are moves learned through TMs, tutors, and breeding anyway.

I'm going through the exact same thing as you and I'm thinking of just leaving my Poliwhirl the way it is. He learns some decent moves when he's older and you can teach him fighting moves via TM's so it does make up for Poliwrath.

I guess it does leave him not as powerful, but if you don't really mind much (like me) then I, personally, would just leave it.
