I haven't read a ton of his stories, but I always enjoyed the ones I did. I've read and seen plenty interviews with him though, and like you said he seemed kind, generous and someone believed in the marvel of science fiction.
Yesterday, unknowingly of his passing, I wore a shirt a friend of mine designed that has a quote of his on it. "Space travel has once again made children of us all." I think I'll be wearing it often for a while.
I like the sound of that shirt. I nearly bought this Fahrenheit 451 one last year when I saw it in a bookstore, but they didn't have my size (the blue is richer than it appears in this picture).
thank you for this entry; i am completely unable to organise my thoughts as yet - it's too much, and would just sound fannish or ego inflating if i tried. reading this post helps a great deal.
ray bradbury shook tragic sense into my world and left me smiling.
I am touched that you found it so, and I especially love what you expressed in the last line. It is some of the highest praise that I can give when I say that the phrasing reminds me of something Neil Gaiman would write. Given that they were pals, I am certain Bradbury would appreciate your kind words.
