Phone OS poll

May 16, 2010 22:57

I haven't created a poll in ages. As I'm likely purchasing my first smartphone within the next 30 days, this seemed a timely question:

Poll Mobile Phone OS poll

I'm also very interested in hearing what your favorite applications are for your device.

Many thanks!

I love my phone. I feel naked without it. I've never had a smartphone before this one so I don't really know if I would be as attached to another brand/style/platform, etc. As for apps, I use the phone a lot :) and the browser for lots of things, the facebook app, then a few games, the geocaching app which isn't all that interesting unless you play :) I rarely use the actual mp3 player or video parts unless I know I'm going to be stuck somewhere, like the hospital, and can download content for it. I would probably use it more if it didn't take 36 hours to download a pay per view movie via wifi or 3G.

A smartphone has got to be incredibly helpful to someone like you who's on the go so much with so many different schedules to manage, I should think.

Do you use the default browser (Safari, I think it is?) or a different one?

Yeah, Safari. I'm not doing anything super fancy with the browser, just looking up phone numbers and random bits of information on the fly. While eating out at the waffle house one day, I was able to look up a website and help someone at the next table doing math homework! When Audrey and I were out the other day, we saw the new pedicabs roll by and decided to go for a ride, so I was able to pop out my phone, look up the website, tap the number and call them to pick us up! By the time we cleared off our lunch table, the guy was driving up to the door, vs us having to walk up to the square and try to find them and flag them down. Once, when Dan had borrowed my car GPS, I was at a drs office and had to get to a lab nearby and I was able to pull up the map and get driving directions which saved me a long time in traffic around rush hour. Just having that instant access to the net is addicting ( ... )

Huh ... you can't edit or delete items in your Google calendar? Interesting. I wouldn't have expected that.

That's neat about the pedicabs -- I haven't seen them around here yet.

Are you interested in the iPhone 4?

Hey, you! :) You are especially helpful, because an Android-based phone is my number one candidate at the moment. I've just recently started using Remember the Milk, and I'm really looking forward to having access to it while I'm mobile.

Barcode scanner, mmm? Is that like ShopSavvy, or slightly different?

The android RTM app is excellent, and indispensible for me (I use the GTD system). The only drawback is that you need to be a pro user, and the app is definitely worth the cost of upgrading ( ... )

Does Picasa interface with Android? Like, say I snapped a picture and wanted to upload it to my Picasa account -- I assume I can do that, right? (I apologize for the complete newbie questions.)

Advanced Task Manager sounds handy, as does AppReferrer. Hmm, GDocs? Is there not a native Google Docs app for Android? That's a mite surprising, but good to know.

I've heard good things about Google Goggles.

What's your favorite Twitter client for Android? I am currently using Seesmic and HootSuite (though I'd gladly give up HootSuite if Seesmic offered tweet scheduling).

Thanks so much for the information! I truly do appreciate it!
