I haven't created a poll in ages. As I'm likely purchasing my first smartphone within the next 30 days, this seemed a timely question:
Poll Mobile Phone OS poll
I'm also very interested in hearing what your favorite applications are for your device.
Many thanks!

Oh, and I forgot about NewsRob - it's a great app that interfaces with Google Reader. I use a lot of google apps, and android come with a lot of great default apps that integrate beautifully with my account. Reader doesn't have a native app, but NewsRob does the job really well.
The barcode scanner doesn't do a lot on it's own, but the way android is designed, it has hooks for all sorts of other programs, so it's an indispensible app to have on the phone. It decodes barcodes and sends the result to a bunch of other apps (e.g. text passages, urls, etc)
A few other apps I use because I'm that sort of techie -- OI file Manager, ConnectBot (SSH client), AndFTP (ftp client), AL Notepad (nice notepad editor) and Evernote occasionally.
Oh, and the Kayak app has a great trip planner interface -- it collects all your flight/hotel/reservation data in a single place with links etc....
Other really useful things: Advanced Task Manager (a memory/task management interface), the amazon app (works great), App Referrer (just cool for sharing apps with other android phones), GDocs (3rd party google docs app), Google Sky Map (if you like star identification), GPS Tracker (to find your phone remotely), My Maps Editor (app to view your saved Google Maps), Owner (to display your contact info on the lock screen), Google Goggles (amazing OCR/image recognition software, even does auto translation), native YouTube support, and a bunch of different twitter clients.
Android has ShopSavvy too, I've found I don't do much in-store shopping anymore, so it's not that useful for me :)

Advanced Task Manager sounds handy, as does AppReferrer. Hmm, GDocs? Is there not a native Google Docs app for Android? That's a mite surprising, but good to know.
I've heard good things about Google Goggles.
What's your favorite Twitter client for Android? I am currently using Seesmic and HootSuite (though I'd gladly give up HootSuite if Seesmic offered tweet scheduling).
Thanks so much for the information! I truly do appreciate it!

Yes, there's a really nice interface -- after you take a picture and hit the share button, a list of programs that accept a photo for upload will come up -- sms, picasa, twitter clients, buzz, gmail etc... so with one tap the picasa client will come up and you can select where to upload it.
(this is part of the way the android system is designed, that applications register the stuff they handle with the OS so it's all very integrated)
And what I love is that all the pictures in your picasaweb account, automatically show up in the gallery app on your phone, without needing to explicitly download it.
I use Twidroid, though TweetsRide seems pretty nice too. I don't use twitter much though, so my needs are fairly simple. I'm not sure if they'll cover what you need...

I'll have to check out Twidroid. I'm also looking forward to test-driving the LJ clients that are available (I think there are at least two that I found via a quick Google?).
