Phone OS poll

I haven't created a poll in ages. As I'm likely purchasing my first smartphone within the next 30 days, this seemed a timely question:

Poll Mobile Phone OS poll

I'm also very interested in hearing what your favorite applications are for your device.

Many thanks!

Yeah, Safari. I'm not doing anything super fancy with the browser, just looking up phone numbers and random bits of information on the fly. While eating out at the waffle house one day, I was able to look up a website and help someone at the next table doing math homework! When Audrey and I were out the other day, we saw the new pedicabs roll by and decided to go for a ride, so I was able to pop out my phone, look up the website, tap the number and call them to pick us up! By the time we cleared off our lunch table, the guy was driving up to the door, vs us having to walk up to the square and try to find them and flag them down. Once, when Dan had borrowed my car GPS, I was at a drs office and had to get to a lab nearby and I was able to pull up the map and get driving directions which saved me a long time in traffic around rush hour. Just having that instant access to the net is addicting!

I think the only thing that would make this better for me would be a better camera on it, with better functions, like zoom (the new one has that, I have the 3g, not the 3gs) but I figure at some point the battery is going to crap out on this one and I may move up to the 3gs and get the better camera and video options.

Oddly, with all the apps on the phone, I still use a paper calendar to keep track of all the appointments and things. I do put all of it onto my google calendar eventually, but for standing at the receptionist, and looking at whats coming up, my $1 pocket calendar is still my best tool. Sadly, the 'issues' between apple and google obvious here, as I am sure there could be more functional, user friendly apps if the companies worked better together. For instance, I can add something to he calendar from my phone, but I can't delete it or edit it from there. I have to go home, log in from my pc and change it there. That's stupid.

Huh ... you can't edit or delete items in your Google calendar? Interesting. I wouldn't have expected that.

That's neat about the pedicabs -- I haven't seen them around here yet.

Are you interested in the iPhone 4?

Well, the google app and the regular mobile-view page for the calendar in safari don't let you edit or delete, only add! That really is a drawback! appointments get rescheduled, things get canceled, I make mistakes when I add stuff! Apple does offer their own calendar, and the mobile-me option for sharing it/synching it but they want more money for that and I'm not paying for something I can do for free on paper just as easily.

I didn't even know there was an iphone4! I wouldn't jump on it just yet, I'm generally not an early adopter when it comes to electronics. I like to let people get tit before me and work out the bugs so when I get around to buying it, it's a better device :)

The pedicabs were fun! I guess they only run on the weekends but it was a neat little spin around the square. We went around twice, because on the first trip, I forgot to check if the dance supply store was open so we went back. It cost us a whopping $2! They offer a guided tour for $10, which I want to do with the kids next week. Everett was quite jealous of our adventure and he wants a turn too!

I agree with you -- I wouldn't pay more for something as basic as calendar functionality. That ought to be included, in my opinion: they shouldn't nickel-and-dime you for something little like that.

The iPhone 4 won't be announced for a few weeks ... tech blogs are anticipating the first week of June or so, so you're not a single moment behind. :)

I'll have to keep an eye out for the pedicabs if I'm ever over in that area.
