LOLOLOL. ONLY EVERY NIGHT. I'm not doing a victory dance, though. The latest polls showed Hillary and Donald within the margin of error. To some extent, I could see independents who are too ignorant to define a Never Trump stake (i.e. the battleground) finding the craziness more engaging than the Republican-party-of-yore's Swiss watch precision conventions with Bushes and Romneys who could be Big Names...that put people to sleep ( ... )

Oh, definitely not. More "hysteria-tinged black humor."

Rationally, I think that things are going to look a lot better next week when the Avengers assemble in Philadelphia. (Even for "oooh shiny" voters who don't want to listen to grown-ups, lol. Trump wearing out his schtick on four days of incompetent monotonous hatred is hardly as entertaining as back-to-back nights of Bill Clinton and Joe Biden off the leash.) But the fact that we even have to worry about it at all is terrifying.

the gross hypocrisy of a party viscerally attacking the Obamas (including Michelle) still stole her convention speech

A passage about hard work, no less. These people make Dubya look like a great statesman.

I can't see myself being more charmed if this was a disciplined convention with Bush, Romney, McCain appearing, if Cruz and Eileen Collins endorsed Trump. It would speak more for his leadership abilities but there's attention and comfortably lower expectations that come with a sloppy convention. Right. It's ( ... )

I just can't even. The amount of hatred and ugliness being exposed, I've just been so depressed with it this week. I hope, hope, hope and for the most part think Trump won't get elected, but the fact that all this exists and it's given legitimacy, add to the fact that I live in a red state with these nutjobs so even when Clinton wins I'll still be around the crazy, and let's just say, I've been researching countries to flee to.

It's astounding. And even the campaign is dangerous, because it's showing violent bigots that they have more company than they thought.

That said, I do think that not only is he going to lose in November, but I think it'll help our political discourse in the long term. I think that Trump's overt bigotry will render dog whistle politics useless for at least a generation. Dog whistles require an environment that gives them a thin veil of plausible deniability. (I suspect a substantial minority of people who respond to dog whistles really aren't consciously aware that's what they're doing.) Trump has ripped off the mask. "How dare you be so uncivil as to accuse me of saying exactly what I'm saying!" really might be over as a rhetorical tool.

That doesn't make the now any easier, or the small but real possibility of him winning any less scary. But I hope and believe we'll be able to take something productive out of this disaster.

I'm flummoxed by the crazy. Between this and Europe, lately I've been feeling as if I live in the only sane nation on earth.

Yeah, I think it's you guys and Sweden. And maybe Japan? I can't think of anything nutty I've heard out of Japan lately, though that could very well be me getting Trumpocalypse tunnel vision.

the fact that Ted Cruz is the one who's come off better than anyone else?

If only they were just doing this for the lulz. But, no.

Dude, I got nothin' on this.

AND THEY FUCKING KNOW IT.

Though apparently at least one of these cowards is actually a mole for a pro-Clinton super PAC, which is encouraging.

I admit I've followed the convention on blogs, because I can't stand the ugliness that has been shown. It's strange, when Obama was elected I was really afraid that he wouldn't make it through his term, because of all the racists who would want him dead. But this is so much worse. I can't think of anything like it in my lifetime. This is really scary stuff. I've already contacted the campaign and I'll start registering voters and knocking on doors and doing whatever I can to get Clinton elected. Plus, I've donated more money to the campaign. We really can't afford for this guy to win.
