I say this as the highest of praise: I totally believe that this show would straight-up kill a baby.

IT TOTALLY WOULD.

the sacrificed Madonna sits up and climbs off the altar because Mama has shit to do.

Yes yes yes. I loved Haley more in this episode than I ever have. Especially when she gutted Genevieve. I may have cheered. And I liked Genevieve!

The question of what Hope herself even is remains mysterious. Her blood operated enough like vampire blood to send Hayley into transition, enough like witch blood that it could be used for a spell, and enough like doppelganger blood that it can be used to make hybrids. Through Hope, all things are possible.

I think I love you for this observation. You = SMART.

Yes yes yes. I loved Haley more in this episode than I ever have.

I did too. MY FIERCE WOLF QUEEN. Her monologue at the end actually sounded like a believable mess of tears, which...usually characters don't? No matter how awful the grief they're usually so annoyingly articulate.

Especially when she gutted Genevieve. I may have cheered. And I liked Genevieve!

Same!

I love what they did with Hope. Just, emotionally perfect.

OH, and how great that the baby with doppelganger-ish blood got sent off like Elena and Nadia did? I tried not to get too attached to the letter of my theory that Klaus had Petrova blood through his biological father, but the patterns of that line are even more there than I expected.

omg YES and the way Elijah looked at Hayley after she gutted Genevieve like he hadn't expected her to be so cold and ruthless. MAMA WOLF IS ANGRY.

aw yeah I really loved the final two episodes. There were a few times this season when the show lagged for me or the direction of the plot itself disappointed me, but I do think they pulled it all off beautifully in the end.

and yes Hayley was everything I ever wanted in this finale!!

There were definitely parts of the season that felt tighter than others, but now I'm wondering how much of those episodes were actually setup for the finale, even, like the Esther reveal that was set up....ten? episodes ago. And it all paid off to a point where I'm inclined to cut a little bit of slack in retrospect.

Hayley is so great and these were such great episodes for her!

And I think it ended in such a good place too. The set-up for next season is great.

Agreed, which is kind of a relief. I had a little bit of worry that it would feel like S1 of Veronica Mars, where there was one driving story that was self-contained within the season, and then it was noticeably out of steam for S2. The pregnancy was such a central aspect which had to expire in the season finale that I wasn't sure it would have anywhere to go. But we're all set to hit the ground running with Esther, Mikael, and the Guerrera wolves, enough to give the show a chance to recenter itself.

hahahaha i love this show, it's replaced TVD as my guilty pleasure show ... sadly i mostly find TVD boring now b/c so much of it is empty plot mechanics and stale character work. sigh ( ... )

how much do i love the theme of family abuse coming back to haunt you? and they SAVE BABY by sending her away from the abuse to go live happily ever after with aunt bekah. love love love. and actually bringing back mikael? wow.

Yeah. It's tricky to illustrate cycles like this without either getting repetitive or implying that a Very Special Episode with a single Hollywood epiphany solves everything. But The Originals so far has been doing great with showing patterns that are hard to break.

the only flaw in this show is the latter absence of rebekah, but at least it makes SENSE as opposed to bonnie disappearing b/c the writers can't be bothered or jeremy's arc getting dropped or caroline idek is anything happening here since she got used to being a vamp? sigh.

I do miss Rebekah, but...idk, it's tough to get too mad, since apparently the main issue there was that Claire Holt hadn't been home in years, so I'm mostly glad they've managed to work around things in a way that's true to the character and sustainable for the actor ( ... )

That was one of my favorite moments of the season just for sheer upended symbolism: the sacrificed Madonna sits up and climbs off the altar because Mama has shit to do.

Agreed.

With everything, but especially this. ((And I also was seriously not sure if the baby was going to make it through the episode.))

I'm so excited to see where Hayley is going to go. She has been slowly evolving over the past few episodes and I'm truly pleased with her in the finale. And also Elijah having to deal with a real, life woman.A+ to all of your thoughts. I was honestly not paying super close attention to this season even as I was watching because I genuinely loved the discussion of cycles of abuse ( ... )

Next season with Esther and Mikael both in play is going to be super interesting.

I'm so intrigued. I'm really hoping for some inter-villain discord. I mean, I don't know how Mikael feels about her, but I do remember that Esther introduced herself to Abby Bennett like "you killed my husband, so... BESTIES 5EVA???" which may have been ass-kissing but I kind of think she meant it? In any event, there are already very interesting contrasts set up between them: Esther is all big-picture, wanting to undo vampires even over her own emotional pull, whereas Mikael is all about the personal rage at his children for having the NERVE to escape him. It could be kind of a neat public-private sphere reversal.

((I was really worried there during her pregnancy that they would either make her weaker - or have her suddenly become baby!strong! and though she is evolving, the show made it clear that it's ALL Hayley. And I genuinely love that.))

YES EXACTLY. That should not be remarkable, but it is.
