That was one of my favorite moments of the season just for sheer upended symbolism: the sacrificed Madonna sits up and climbs off the altar because Mama has shit to do.

I'm so excited to see where Hayley is going to go. She has been slowly evolving over the past few episodes and I'm truly pleased with her in the finale. And also Elijah having to deal with a real, life woman.
A+ to all of your thoughts. I was honestly not paying super close attention to this season even as I was watching because I genuinely loved the discussion of cycles of abuse.
Next season with Esther and Mikael both in play is going to be super interesting.

((I was really worried there during her pregnancy that they would either make her weaker - or have her suddenly become baby!strong! and though she is evolving, the show made it clear that it's ALL Hayley. And I genuinely love that.))

I'm so intrigued. I'm really hoping for some inter-villain discord. I mean, I don't know how Mikael feels about her, but I do remember that Esther introduced herself to Abby Bennett like "you killed my husband, so... BESTIES 5EVA???" which may have been ass-kissing but I kind of think she meant it? In any event, there are already very interesting contrasts set up between them: Esther is all big-picture, wanting to undo vampires even over her own emotional pull, whereas Mikael is all about the personal rage at his children for having the NERVE to escape him. It could be kind of a neat public-private sphere reversal.
