hahahaha i love this show, it's replaced TVD as my guilty pleasure show ... sadly i mostly find TVD boring now b/c so much of it is empty plot mechanics and stale character work. sigh.

how much do i love the theme of family abuse coming back to haunt you? and they SAVE BABY by sending her away from the abuse to go live happily ever after with aunt bekah. love love love. and actually bringing back mikael? wow.

and i love how powerful the witches are, too, in this show, in a way that respects their history without making them beholden to other supernatural kinds. like, oh bonnie on TVD - who has a martyr complex, sure, but when she's the only witch in the show and the only black supporting character, it makes for a statement on witches and race. the diversity of witches on the originals is GRAET (haha i'm going to leave that misspelled).

the only flaw in this show is the latter absence of rebekah, but at least it makes SENSE as opposed to bonnie disappearing b/c the writers can't be bothered or jeremy's arc getting dropped or caroline idek is anything happening here since she got used to being a vamp? sigh.

Yeah. It's tricky to illustrate cycles like this without either getting repetitive or implying that a Very Special Episode with a single Hollywood epiphany solves everything. But The Originals so far has been doing great with showing patterns that are hard to break.

I do miss Rebekah, but...idk, it's tough to get too mad, since apparently the main issue there was that Claire Holt hadn't been home in years, so I'm mostly glad they've managed to work around things in a way that's true to the character and sustainable for the actor.

though I actually think Bonnie and Caroline have gotten some of the most organic character progression on TVD this season? Bonnie's internalization and denial, and Caroline's unwitting descent into Petrova-esque darkness....OH GIRLS I LOVE YOU SO.
