The office was a big place. Loud, chaotic, people shouting across the room that they needed that thing they asked for two days ago or that someone owed them money or whatever - think a police station, if it were staffed by a bunch of unruly teenagers. It was unusual to get room to even think unless you went and locked yourself in a closet, much less something resembling actual silence...

Which is why it really worried me when it happened. Silence, I mean.

I didn't even notice the elevator doors open, because let's face it, you couldn't hear an elevator in that commotion, and my desk faced away from the door. Put me at a real disadvantage when suddenly all the voices in the room fell silent, one by one, in a ripple that spread out from the elevator. And that was the sort of thing that made me not want to turn around. I always got this weird concern there might be some sort of monster standing in the doorway... in which case, really, not turning to look at it just meant that I wouldn't ever know what it was that ripped my head off, ( ... )

Yes. It is part of a novel... that I haven't actually gotten around to plotting out yet... but never mind that.

Oooooooooh so mysterious! Tall woman with an exoctic accent who obviously wrecks havoc all over this persons life. (Is this part of a larger storyverse?)

Also, the idea of a sketchy starbucks made me lol

It is part of a larger storyverse...sort of. It's something I started for the July itsproductivity prompts but never really got very far.

Find your way in a city : TWW - Sam ola_sw March 9 2008, 02:02:33 UTC
Closes his eyes and sighs.

DC isn't what it used to be, it seems colder, grimmer, so much sadder than sunny California. Sam pulls the coat tighter around himself and sighs again. DC is a lot colder than he remembered and his joints have grown old.

This used to be the greatest place in the world, he thinks. But he doesn't believe it anymore, can't believe it no matter how much he tries to for Josh, for president Santos, for Julia.

This used to be his home and now he doesn't know left from right, doesn't know what to do and where to turn in this place that used to be a symbol of all that was right, all that he believed in.

Remembers eight years ago, the excitement and the anticipation. Knowing there are greater things to come, now he has to find his way around in a city he doesn't think he believes in.

Aww Saaaaaaaaaaaam :( I still think it's tragic how disillusioned he got. And this is so sad and achey and I just want to cuddle him!

Find your way in a city: SGA - Rodney and Teyla gen inocciduous March 9 2008, 02:06:32 UTC
Teyla is exhausted from the past week - it seems like she’s hardly had a chance to stop and take a deep breath let alone process the events of the past few days. And, to be honest, if she thinks about it she might go insane. The waking of the Wraith (and even just that slight brush of her mind against the concept sends a powerful shudder through her), the relocation of her people, and the alliance she seems to have forged with the Atlantians have all sent her mind into a helpless freefall, bouncing from one to another and then spiraling out again. So after her meeting with Dr. Weir and Major Sheppard and a visit to see that the children are settling in, she wanders down the hallway and is surprised to find that she doesn’t know where she is. Teyla has an excellent sense of direction and cannot remember the last time she got lost - on her own world or another. Feeling panic rise slowly in her stomach, she resists the urge to tap on the radio that Dr. Weir had given her, not wanting to play the role of helpless native that the ( ... )

AW! TELYA AND RODNEY BONDING! I love the idea of Teyla and Rodney looking out for each other and both being as scared and lost in Atlantis as the other. This was awesome!

This is just too perfect. It's so cute, like they don't want to admit that they need each other. And then Teyla, ever the diplomat finds a way around it. Love it.

find your way through a city - original twilighted March 9 2008, 02:06:47 UTC
I have never been lost in this city before. I’ve managed to find my way through even when I was drunk, or high, or completely out of it. Somehow I always make it back home. But now, at the very moment when it is critical that I not be lost, I have no idea where I am ( ... )

Pretty much the same thing Kait said. I loved the caps. I loved the rushed, anxious feeling of this.

What a creepy sense of anticipation you built through this! And the bit of hope and certainty at the end is fantastic :)
