A New Day ~*~
Rose and the Doctor had spent most of the morning snuggling, and then decided to "come up for air" as Jack had joked when the others returned from breakfast. While the whole group - Jack, Martha, Donna, Sarah Jane, Rose and the Doctor - had left the TARDIS together, it didn't take long for the Doctor and Rose to separate from everyone else. Not that they didn't enjoy the others' company, but since it was still early times in their reunion, they felt the need to be alone together.
It was a beautiful sunny day as they wandered around the Midway planet, eyeing the various games and rides available. The planet was aptly named, not only for the carnival atmosphere, but also because it was a midway point between realities. Rose had discovered this in some ancient text she'd found on her earth. The Doctor, unsurprisingly, had just happened upon the planet for a break with his larger than usual gang of companions.
As they meandered, their hands entwined, they couldn't stop stealing glances at each other, shy, contented smiles never leaving their faces.
Rose felt a slight hunger pang and turned to look at the Doctor.
"What about some lunch?" she said at the same time as the Doctor. They laughed.
"You read my mind," he joked.
She felt the old familiar warmth build within her. How she had missed being with him. And how easily they had fallen back into their old ways after being back together for such a short time. It almost felt like she'd never left.
Rose had a momentary twinge of sadness tweak at her, and as if to further prove their bond, the Doctor pulled her into a hug. She allowed herself to relax into him, closing her eyes and slipping her arms around his waist. She breathed in the scent of him: sandalwood. Interestingly, it was a scent not found on the alternate earth, and since she associated the smell with him, she'd missed it keenly in the two years they'd been separated.
She felt him kiss her on the top of her head and she moaned contentedly. She opened her eyes and glanced up at him, her heart racing at the suddenly desirous expression on the Doctor's face.
"Can't leave you two alone for long." Jack. He really had rotten timing.
Rose rolled her eyes and the Doctor shrugged, but both smiled all the same. There was no rush: she wasn't going anywhere so there was plenty of time to act on their growing passion.
They turned their heads in unison to look at Jack and Donna who were standing there smirking at them.
"You're just jealous," the Doctor teased.
"Hell, yeah!" Jack responded emphatically, continuing to grin as he put his hands on his hips.
Rose chuckled when she saw an annoyed eye roll from Donna. She had only known the redhead a short time now, but she found she really liked her. She managed to keep the boys in line, most of the time.
"As much as I'd love to join in on the love-in you two have going on," Jack stated, "we're here to drag you two back with the gang for some lunch."
"Perfect timing, we were just discussing lunch," the Doctor responded.
"Well, we've gotta discuss lunch a bit more often," the other man flirted, waggling his eyebrows and gaining a smack upside the back of his head from Donna. "Ow!" he exclaimed, rubbing at his scalp as he pouted in Donna's direction.
"Enough flirting, Sunshine. The others are waiting for us."
"Aw, you're just jealous," Jack said, turning his charm on again. "Don't worry, you're still my number one."
Donna snorted in response, but Rose didn't miss a briefly pleased look on her face as he slipped his left arm around the other woman's waist.
"C'mon, let's get going before Martha and Sarah Jane start lunch without us," the redhead said.
As the Doctor and Rose began to walk toward the other two, each with an arm around the other, Jack and Donna turned and walked slightly in front of them.
Rose sighed happily, laying her head on the Doctor's shoulder. Life was really good.
