City Seeks Contractors For Snow, Tree Removal

With another storm looming, the city of Pittsburgh is asking for help from contractors who can either assist with snow or tree removal. Anyone who has the necessary equipment is asked to call 412-473-2550.

I guess Punxsutawney Phil wasn't kidding last Tuesday.

If you have to be out driving today, PUT DOWN YOUR CELL PHONES!!! It's snowpocalypse all around me, but in my rear view mirror I see a woman in an Escalade, chatting away. Not a very reassuring sight when I have to stop suddenly on very slippery roads. Common sense, people!

I'm over on the Brookline/Beechiew border, and my electricity just came on after being out for a half-hour or so. A look outside revealed the only light coming from the snow. It was startling, and reminded me that I need to keep batteries around for flashlights, radios, etc.

Clearly Randall Munroe heard about Pittsburgh's weather...

Seriously! Apocalyptic weather? Zombies? A bunch of geeks running around excited about it? What other city could he possibly be talking about?!

Out of curiosity, how bad is it out there? Trees down, roads flooded/closed? I live in Squirrel Hill and things look pretty normal outside of my window.

I'm ready to get started with planting in our yard (flowers & grasses & some herbs) but I'm not really sure when I should start.  When does Pittsburgh generally get past the nightly freezes? 

It's 8:52 Pm on a cold cold Pittsburgh night.

I live in Manchester/North Side area.

Where is the closest place that I can drive to right now to get plastic to put on my windows?

I'm off today but need/want to make a run over to Trader Joe's from here in lovely Swissvale. In the time I've been puttering and lying about, something resembling a blizzard seems to have developed in the Pittsburgh skies. How are the streets? Any ice ( Read more... )
