I just moved to the city last Saturday, and so far everything has been absolutely wonderful. My partner and I can't seem to stop smiling, and we become downright giddy over the tiniest of things -- the quaint charm, the close proximity of everything, the hometown feel. We've just spent a year living in NYC (so maybe we've just been on-edge for 13

Thanks! I grew up in Latrobe, went to college in Edinboro, and then spent a year in NYC. Having lived NEAR Pittsburgh for 23 years, I know virually nothing about it (but am enjoying it so far)!

2) I can't help either, I'm a First Commonwealth customer.
3) I'm a big fan of Pizza Parma, there's one downtown.

As far as pizza, locally there is Pasta Too. They're right on Federal less than a block up from North. You should also Try Max's Allgheny Tavern (Suismon), Sweet Georgia Brown's (James Street), The Park House (East Ohio), Legends (North) and Sam's Memphis BBQ (Federal). No pizza at these places but good food. You should also check out Amani's (suismon as well I believe) for your morning coffee. For beer purchases I usually use Caruso's (On North Taylor http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/specialreports/onthejob/s_523042.html) in the War Streets itself. Doug's Market on Arch has a decent butcher there.
As for banks I use PNC and they've always been good to me.

The bus system is tough. I'd find a local municipality (for me it was the library). A lot of them will stock all of the hand held bus schedules for your neighborhood. Google Transit has it's faults, but it's the best system I've found so far. I just have a lot of pdf's of the hand helds on my desktop. I've found the best (ie easiest) place to get them from is buskarma.com. You'll find a few key routes for you soon. As frustrating as it can be to figure out what buses go where, the routes are actually fairly convenient!
Good luck and welcome!
