Hello, Neighbors!

Nov 17, 2007 13:35

I just moved to the city last Saturday, and so far everything has been absolutely wonderful. My partner and I can't seem to stop smiling, and we become downright giddy over the tiniest of things -- the quaint charm, the close proximity of everything, the hometown feel. We've just spent a year living in NYC (so maybe we've just been on-edge for 13 ( Read more... )

1. From Allegheny General Hospital to
... anywhere downtown,
... or to Oakland,
... or to the South Side (Station Square or the Southside Works -- I know they aren't close to each other).

Thanks! I grew up in Latrobe, went to college in Edinboro, and then spent a year in NYC. Having lived NEAR Pittsburgh for 23 years, I know virually nothing about it (but am enjoying it so far)!

There are a ton of buses that run from at or near AGH to downtown. There are at least eight of them I can think of off the top of my head that go down East Ohio St. You'll want to board on the side closest to AGH ( ... )

Thank you -- especially for saying which side of the street to board on! That's such a little thing, but it helps so much!

That's something I remembered as being a problem when I first started taking the bus. As someone new to the city, I wanted to make sure you knew and didn't have to deal with inadvertently ending up far away from downtown. :)

How is you lost a ton of money with National City?

I've banked with National City for 21 years, and never once had a problem with them. The only time I've ever 'lost money' with them was when I inadvertantly overdrew my account once, and that was a legitimate charge on their part.

They took a check for my mortgage out four times in the same day. I only figured it out as fast as I did because I checked their system to make sure it had gone through at all. I know a lot of other people who have had the same problem, and National City tried to make them eat the losses.

You're very lucky that you've never had problems with that bank. I used to deal with account corrections, and I'd have to deal with a lot of complaints about how people were getting screwed out of their money.

All I can say is if you do experience problems from their end, fight it until you're blue in the face.

I had problems with them when they were Integra. First -- they declined several check that I had written saying the account was closed. It was fine and showing a healthy balance at the time. They gave me a very hard time getting that corrected.

Then a couple years later they overdrew my account for ATM withdrawls while I was in college. Sad part is -- there was never an ATM card ever issued on the account. I didn't want easy access to my money in case I tried to blow it on insignificant stuff. When I brought this to their attention they gave me a really hard time about rectifying it and also about reimburing me for costs associated with vendors that I had made out other checks that had gone through and would have cleared with no problems.

However.. I did recently go back to them as National City for a business account and they have been fabulous.

National City's business accounts are a lot different than personal accounts. They pay so much more attention to business accounts. Again, trust me on this because of my former job.

I do hope things work out for you with that. I have a feeling they will, but in case they don't, heed my advice from the earlier response and fight them until you're blue in the face.

AGREED! I HATED banking with National City. I definitely ended up handing over $400+ to them for nothing, and they had shitty, ghetto service. I bank with PNC and adore it.

fyi, the 54c goes to the south side, but it turns west after crossing hot metal bridge. ss works is about 4-5 blocks east of there, so as long as weather isn't terrible it's a fine walk. it's probably not the most direct way to get there but now you know you can just stay on the one bus if you want.

the 59u goes from oakland directly to the south side works.

on banks, i'm in the oakland area, but from my experience pnc is basically the only bank whose atm's you can expect to find when you're out and about.
