Hello, Neighbors!

I just moved to the city last Saturday, and so far everything has been absolutely wonderful. My partner and I can't seem to stop smiling, and we become downright giddy over the tiniest of things -- the quaint charm, the close proximity of everything, the hometown feel. We've just spent a year living in NYC (so maybe we've just been on-edge for 13 ( Read more... )

1) The bus system is very confusing. Maybe tell us what routes are listed at the stop nearest you and we can help you navigate from there.

2) I can't help either, I'm a First Commonwealth customer.

3) I'm a big fan of Pizza Parma, there's one downtown.

1. From Allegheny General Hospital to
... anywhere downtown,
... or to Oakland,
... or to the South Side (Station Square or the Southside Works -- I know they aren't close to each other).

Thank you for the pizza recommendation!

If you walk to federal you can get the 500 that will take you right into Oakland through downtown. Of course, any bus you get will take you into downtown and from there its very easy to pick up a 71 or 61 that will take you into Oakland.

As far as pizza, locally there is Pasta Too. They're right on Federal less than a block up from North. You should also Try Max's Allgheny Tavern (Suismon), Sweet Georgia Brown's (James Street), The Park House (East Ohio), Legends (North) and Sam's Memphis BBQ (Federal). No pizza at these places but good food. You should also check out Amani's (suismon as well I believe) for your morning coffee. For beer purchases I usually use Caruso's (On North Taylor http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/specialreports/onthejob/s_523042.html) in the War Streets itself. Doug's Market on Arch has a decent butcher there.

As for banks I use PNC and they've always been good to me.

I LOVE Maxs Allegheny Tavern! I've added all the others to my To Eat list. Thank you!

Seconding First Commonwealth. I've been with them for 11 years since leaving National (FEES FEES FEES) City.
