what about setting up archery targets, shooting for simple prizes or rewards? Like a carnival game, or games. They could be in teams, with extra prizes for costumes.
Is it coming up soon, this fall, or later? Because if it's now you could carve pumpkins and squash, and maybe bob for apples.
it occurs to me you need something simple to plan and execute ...
how about teams go a treasure hunt in Bath looking for archery related logos? They would snap the picture as evidence, and whoever finds the most wins?
OR you could come up with scavenger hunt where they need to find the item/location/stunt and snap a pic to prove they were there. (Pretend to go bathing at the Baths, make a funny face in front of the courthouse) or have them use an arrow or bow as props in each picture.
That's really neat that you're into archery. When my niece and I were in Australia we won a teeny archery thing at Dunk Island resort...just a fun thing. We were the only Americans there. It was very funny. Not in the least bit serious. As for the Greek thing not being simple? The costumes could be simple. We always had toga parties because everyone had sheets. So that's simple, anyway! Hmmm...maybe a literary costume party where you have to guess who the character is? With some way to keep everyone from coming as Robin Hood and Cupid, I guess. Hmmm.

|The issue with the togas is that the saturday of freshers week (tonight) is always a toga party, because of the roman baths, so people would be bored of it. Also it's really cold to go around town in a toga

What about the signs of the zodiac? Featuring Sagittarius, of course.
*is not biased towards Sagittarius AT ALL*
