Your ideas are fantastic! But I feel I should have explained more thoroughly for my American f-list.
Basically, a social tends to be a pub crawl ending up in a club. Occaisonally we do other things, like paintballing, and crazy golf, and your scavenger hunt idea sounds excellent (the competitions are archery related and we do them quite a lot anyway :)) but usually it's the pub crawling, which is easy to organise and means everyone can be as social or not as they want, arriving and leaving when they want, drinking what they want and talking to who they want to.
Generally we have a theme to the evening, for costumes and possibly the pubs we go to - although I think for this first one I might just go to the best known ones because most of these guys won't have been out in town before and won't know anywhere to go anyway.
so, you see now more what I mean?
However I love the scavenger hunt idea and i'm so going to try it later in the year when the weather's better and people know the town better (otherwise unfair advantage to the seniors!)
