I'm on a train back to Edinburgh from Liverpool. I spasmed in panic when the Liverpool train set off thirty minutes late, throwing plans for connecting trains into disarray. An hour-and-a-half later than I should be I'm finally travelling in a seat facing backward to Edinburgh ( Read more... ) -

The viscera must knot in the middle, as much as there may be entanglements. The feeling cannot lie, surely: the heaviness and dis-ease in the middle of the torso, in the solar plexus, it must be real. A tension that rides up the thorax to the base of the throat. I'm too distressed to be articulate.
Riots across London. It feels perverse to watch these things on the news.
Violence always disturbs things. But isn't it also disturbing to have 'luxury goods', just within reach but mostly out of reach. Isn't the real 'criminality' raising prices but not wages.
