I took a little time to strip my dumpster dive bike. I'm not that experienced yet, but it seemed to have some pretty good components. The bottom bracket looks okay, but I'm afraid the cranks are history. Can't win them all. Everything looks straight and the frame, forks, headset, bars, and bottom bracket seem very salvageable. Hah! My freewheel removal tools shipped today.

That's a good thing, but I have no idea when I'm going to actually have them in my possession...

This is almost surreal when I stop and think about it. Today, I took some stuff to the 'sorting center'; it's the new word for "dump". Among other things was a perfectly functional, 27" NTSC, 110 VDC Color Television. It made a great noise when it fell on top of a giant mirror in the bottom of the bin. The only thing that's really holding up the bike project now is the freewheel removal tool. I opted to get it off of e-bay because it's soooo much cheaper. This means that I have to wait out the auction (I'll probably win it) then I have to wait out shipping then I have to wait out me getting my mail because I'm in such a 'remote' location. Got the rest of the parts off of the frame. The crank puller worked like lucky charms. I have now almost completely dissected a bicycle. I'm down to a bare frame. I only have the hubs left to disassemble; the front one for maintenance and the rear one for the re-gearing re-dishing, lock ringing phase. I'm waiting to see if I won my freewheel ( Read more... )
