I *finally* got to see Carmen live this weekend - at the Staatsoper, no less! In terms of Vienna's opera houses, it's the best - the biggest, the richest, and the most traditional. Yet they always sell standing tickets for €3 or 4 for every single performance, so it doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive.

I think the best mezzo I've heard recently is Stephanie Blythe. I don't know if she's done any recording, but dude, she's got a killer voice.
