I just started reading In Search of Vienna by Henriette Mandl, which is a book of walking tours through Vienna’s 1st district (the city center). I actually got from the teachers at one of my schools at the end of the year last year. Last night was the Austria-wide Lange Nacht der Museen (Long Night of the Museums), during which (most) museums were open from 6 pm - 1am, and it was possible to visit as many as possible for the low low price of 13 Euro (or 11 if you got a discount for being special).  A bunch of TA's had done this last year, but we got a late start then and didn' ( Read more... )

I found this video on one of the Ravelry.com forums, and I find it SO INTERESTING! It's a presentation (kinda long - almost 17 minutes) by a woman who, with the help of her sister, has started crocheted coral reef. They've done some exhibitions in various museums, usually in relation to global warming, and through this publicity, other crocheters ( Read more... )

I *finally* got to see Carmen live this weekend - at the Staatsoper, no less! In terms of Vienna's opera houses, it's the best - the biggest, the richest, and the most traditional. Yet they always sell standing tickets for €3 or 4 for every single performance, so it doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive.
