Mashing vegetables
I learned my lesson about potatoes: boil them then mash them, grate them, whatever. I tried grating them raw last week and ended up with a grey mush which my girls forcibly disposed of.
Carrots worked just fine. Now I want to mash up swede and potato, so I'll parboil the potatoes. Do I have to parboil the swede as well, or can I grate it raw? -

This is a wonderful little book with a rather unusual premise. I love the setting and the characters, and most of all I love the ending.
The fact that it's been created and is being sold for charity is just icing on the cake.

"Balance of Trade" by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
A re-read this time, now I've managed to acquire the MMPB, and as worthwhile as ever.
An interesting exercise, which I can now perform for myself having both this book and the Liaden Universe Companion #1 in my possession, will be to compare this book with the original novella of the same name. No doubt this is an FAQ somewhere, but it's more fun in ( Read more... ) -

So now I'm cross again, but for a different reason this time: I can never read this book for the first time again.
