Sahara! and Generation Gap

First, I forgot to mention it before, but I saw the movie Sahara yesterday! It's fabulous! Definite A+ and I don't give those out that often. I mean as far as action, this movie has it all: violent and evil warlord, powerful and evil businessman, African rebels, plague, toxic waste, death and mayhem, gold and treasure, Civil war ironclads with ( Read more... )

I think your grandma is living in the land of wishful thinking!

I really just popped by for two seconds to tell you that I've missed you! Can't wait to find some time to chat.

Your grammy makes some valid points, however she's overlooking one crucial fact; people like using computers. And it doesn't matter how irritating or inconvenient they are, or how irritating and inconvenient they get.

This is the opposite to my own experience. My grandfather (who died before 1980, to give you a time scale) was among the first to introduce computers into the insurance industry (I believe my mother still has a photo of him standing in front of a truly ginormous mainframe). My grandfather died before the personal computing revolution was truly underway, but I truly believe that he would be unsurprised by computers today. Makes it hard for me to imagine someone actually alive today who doesn't get the ubiquity of computers...

I have to say that I do think it's easier to do research at the library, if you need a significant amount of information. Other than that, I think your grandmother is just unwilling to face reality. Computers are definitely here to stay! :)

*L* Depends. When I needed info on privacy ethics, the library was way better because a lot of the stuff on-line was just Joe Schmo's whiney opinion with no real creditability. For RFID on the other hand, the library was next to worthless whereas the internet had all the latest tech journals without me haveing to spend ours with the Periodical Guide.

Still, I'm a complete Google!child...
