Summary: Dick's going to take up the Mantle left behind by his mentor..whether he likes it or not.

So, outnumbered was he? One of the newly arrived voices belonged to Stephanie Brown, but the other, though he recognized it, he couldn't place just yet. The Joker tucked the barrel of his Glock into the top of his pants, no longer in need of it. To make this situation work to his advantage, he needed something a bit more explosive, and he had just the thing

Roy chuckled, it was good to the younger man slowly emerge from that shell.

"Well that's given me an idea for Halloween." He smiled at the though of Dick dressed as a pirate. "But you do know Dickie, that eyepatch is gonna look some much better on you than it does on Slade."

"Don't even joke about a pegleg!" Bones cried, straightening a moment. "If you come in here one day without a leg, I ain't sticking on a new one! Now hold still."

" I'm holding..I'm holding" Dick sighed as he held himself as still as he could. Really though he wouldn't have had any one else working on him at that moment than Bones. The Older man was one of the best..and Dick was convinced he could cure a rainy day if he tried hard enough.

"I've got 'im." Roy replied as well as he kept hold of Dick's sweaty hand.

"Tim, why don't you head to our apartment and get Dickie-bow a change of clothes." He said tossing the youth his set of keys knowing that the elder dark-haired man would want to get out the blood stained clothing.

Bones barely heard the exchange; he was once again examining the wound, trying to see what nerve damage there was. He picked up the dermal regenerator and began to slowly knit some of the flesh together, leaving the eye for last.

Tim caught the keys easily with one hand and nodded, unfolding himself and hopping off of the bed he'd settled on. "Sure thing." He gave Dick a little smile. "I'll be back in a bit, big brother. Any requests?"

" something Loose...Thanks kiddo" Dick Replied when bones gave him a moment to speak. His Hand still Gripped Roy's with firm strength more so in his attempt to stay still once more. If he had only heard the damn clown coming before he got the jump he would have been fine.

Roy watch the youth leave, he didn't want to kick the kid out as he saw it, he just thought he could do with the air and the time to think.

He squeezed Dick's hand once more, letting his blood brother know that he was still here even though he could be seen.

Bones still took no notice. Slowly, the flesh on Dick's cheek was coming back together. But it would take some time. "How is that feeling?" he asked finally.

" better..than a needle and thread" Dick replied with a small smile, he was still put off about the loss of sight in his eye. Now that bones had closed up the laceration across his throat he was doing much better though. " think you can really fix it?"

"Hope I don't have to find that out, not that I don't trust you doc."

Roy's thumb was lovingly rubbing the back of Dick's hand, even though the younger man wasn't aware of it.

Bones nodded. "I think so. This eye is pretty bad off. It's going to take a lot of time, which means you're going to have to be patient." He straightened. "That's starting to look a little better. The face, at least. That eye is still a mess, though. Let me get some more things," he sighed, turning away towards the equipment table.

" so why do they call you Bones?" Dick forced a Chuckle, his own thumb and fingers rubbing along roy's hand. He always wondered why Bones got his nickname though he could see a good number of reasons why. He was relieved the wounds on his face were closing up well, he didnt want a hole in his sinuses or the like.

"Are you sure you wanna know that?" Roy asked the injured man.

Sure Roy had been thinking the same thing, but what if it was for something terrible he had done or that he collected the things for a weird reason.

Bones turned to look at Roy with a quirked eyebrow. "Excuse me young man?" he asked, then looked back at Dick. The poor fella needed to keep his mind off his injuries. "Jim started calling me that, long ago. I assume it's short for 'Sawbones.' I like it," he admitted. "It suits me."
