On Monday, ilv2laff, gotmoof and I went to Saji-Ya for sushi. It was fun a laid back evening with two of my house mates. Unfortunately, due to a communication error on my part, stpaulcub25 didn't make it. Tim did a nice post on it here: Well-Stuffed Kow.

On Thursday, my boss was in town for annual reviews. After taking him to see Uncle Hugo's for their 31st Anniversary ( Read more... )

Anything without shellfish...I have developed an intolerance to shellfish.

The Moreton Bay Bug (Thenus orientalis) is a species of slipper lobster found throughout the waters of Australia's north coast. I think I remember hearing on a cooking show that those allergic to shellfish could eat this one for some reason. But I can't find on-line information to support that claim. Maybe I got it wrong.

I will have to look into this... I miss shellfish! I used to eat it all. I woke up in the middle of the night in Portland, Maine with a horrible pain. I haven't been able to eat it since.

So, this pain, it wasn't an allergic reaction like constriction of your airways, but rather like you had some bad shellfish?

i always get the roe with a quail egg. have had hungover friends not dine at a sushi bar with me because they couldn't face this. i LOVE fried shrimp heads! and i like everything they put out except the eel....and you'd think i'd like a nice frueadian eel.

I don't mind the quail egg. I prefer the Flying Fish Roe over the Salmon. I like the Sea Eel. It's the Sea Urchin that I avoid.

Now I've got some kind of a mashup of "Feed Me" from Little Shop of Horrors mixed with "Fish Heads" going through my mind...

I think MN sushi would go best with Chicken and ground beef, rather than fish. It would be like hot dish in a roll

here in wisconsin, you can actually get chicken tempura rolls.

...but the spicy tuna/mango rolls are killer.

Spicy Tuna & Mango? That's sounds very odd, yet not necessarily bad either. I may need to try this next time I'm in Wisconsin. What resteraunt & where do you recommend?

Chicken Tempura Rolls sounds fabulous!

it was fabulous! the sweet and tang of the mango contrasted and complimented the bite of the spicy tuna, mellowing it out just a bit. it was a special at Edo, easily the best sushi i've had in madison.

I love salmon and tuna, be it sushi or sashimi, and am becoming rather partial to eel as well. I'm not a huge maki fan, but only because so many of them have one or more vegetables I loathe in them (including avocado and bell pepper). The negihama maki sounds yummy though.

Try the Albacore next time too, I think you'd like it.
