Dean warded off the pirate's blows with the bell in his hands. He probably would've fallen from the mast by now if not for his enhanced reflexes. He thought longingly of the gun jammed into his waistband. But shooting Casper in the face just wouldn't work in this situation.

Sparks flew from the blade as it connected with the bell again. The vibration of impact traveled up his arms and shook his shoulders in the sockets painfully.

The distant thunder of a gun drew Dean's attention momentarily. The sudden silence that followed was a testament to the fact that the melee below had ended.

The pirate bared his teeth at Dean. “Treachery!” He bellowed. Then the canon fuses braided into his hair ignited as if lit by the force of his temper. The pirate bull-rushed Dean, knocking him from the crossbeam.

Weighted by the heavy brass bell in his arms, Dean plunged downward. He missed the ship by inches and plunged into the cold dark water.

“Dean!” Chloe cried out as she watched him fall. Without a second thought, she raced across the deck and slipped over the side.

Chloe pushed herself down into the water until it felt as if her lungs would burst. In the dark, salty brine it was impossible to see her husband.

Just as she was about to return to the surface for a second reserve of air, she felt his hand close over hers.

Dean! He guided her own hand to the bell and the two of them shared the load as they swam to the surface.

Dean and Chloe released a deep gasp of breath as they breached the surface.

“You okay?” Chloe asked as she wiped at the salty water streaming from her eyes.

“Yeah,” Dean coughed up salt water. “Thought I was supposed to be your hero. Not the other way around.”

“We take turns,” Chloe said. “Comes with the vows.”

Their banter was interrupted by the sound of someone clearing her throat.

Chloe and Dean looked up to see Bela Talbot standing on the deck. The stock of the antique shotgun rested against her shoulder, and the muzzle was trained on Sam and Sarah.

“Oh you're kidding me,” Dean scowled. “Where'd you’d dig up that antique?”

“Well, you did strand me in a museum,” she said primly. “I had to get a bit creative.”

“Sammy, you okay?” he asked.

“Fine,” Sam said shortly.

“There's a motorized dinghy tied just off the bow,” Bella continued. “Be a dear, Dean and put the key in it.”

With an angry scowl, Dean kicked out toward the tiny motorboat that Bella indicated. Chloe trailed in his wake and helped him to ease the bell over the side.

“Now swim away,” the mercenary directed them. Once they'd done so, she climbed down the ship's ladder to the boat. Then she smirked at them. “This has been lovely. Sarah, we really must do this again sometime.” Then untying the line, she started the boat's motor and trolled away.

“Damnit,” Sarah clenched her teeth in frustration as she and Sam stood at the rail and watched Bela leave.

“So that's it?” Sam asked wearily.

“No, we're still in this thing,” Dean said with a thoughtful look as he bobbed in the water.. “I don't think those pirates were randomly attacking people.”

Chloe looked at him with a raised eyebrow as she treaded water.

“Sam? There another little boat up there? ”

“A rowboat?” Sam asked.

“Whatever,” Dean said. “Is there?”

“Yeah.”

“Get it down here,” Dean said. “We need to get ashore right now.”
