Not to be being always posting about our cats or anything, but we thought some good news about them might be welcome to our flist members. We took Dusty and Cinders in for long overdue *theoretically* routine check-ups to our regular vet, and guess what--they're healthy [for diabetic cats]! We're not sure who was more relieved--ourselves or our

Hehehe...Jude's on the nip. Crazy cat.
Daisy is the only one that needs to loose weight and Jude just can't GAIN any weight as he's now at a good weight as opposed to being UNDER-weight. It took him a year to put on two pounds (which is good....slow gain is good). How do you get a cat to eat more who refuses to eat but just enough? And no wet food will wet his apatite.
Cheers!

Some of the cats we've owned have gone berserk over catnip, while others could take it or leave it. We've even known cat owners whose cats are completely unmoved by catnip. Strange.
If you have a Trader Joe's grocery store near you, you might try their tuna fish for cats on Jude--a lot of cats [including ours] seem to find it very tasty. It apparently has a very strong, distinct taste to it. Cats don't have a very good sense of taste...who knew?

But it's a dry heat, right? ;-)
Richard routinely reads the John Varley novels--we have the other two in the series ending with Rolling Thunder, so I'm sure we'll be getting it as well. I've never liked Varley's novels very much--I've always preferred his short stories. Which is strange because, in general, I'm not particularly fond of short fiction.
Iain M. Banks' new SF 'Culture' novel is just out. It's apparently one of those books which reviewers either love or hate. I usually like Banks' work and got Matter from Amazon.uk [it's not available from regular US sources yet]. As for me, I think the book is too long and too complex and that the reviewers have been giving too much of the story away in their reviews. Not that that bothers me particularly because I usually read the ending of books after I've read the first chapter or so. This horrifies Richard, of course.

Perri, I'm not particularly "horrified" that you read the endings of books early, but doesn't that take away from the reading experience of them? To each his own and all that, of course.
Richard, I'm like you and am waiting for Rolling Thunder to hit our bookstore, so I can finish the Varley trilogy. I remember that Perri doesn't like short story collections...too bad, there's a lot of good reading in shorter fiction.
Glad Cinders and Dusty passed their vet exam.
