Potential Customers LJ Lost

Aug 10, 2007 22:58

If you use a FREE LiveJournal account, it doesn’t mean that your voice doesn’t count.

If you were unhappy and dissatisfied with the way in which the Strikethrough- and the Boldout-related incidents were handled by 6A/LJ, and decided not to spend your money on their products and services, make it known.

Make it noticed.

1. 8 years (not this journal)

2.Too expensive for too few features that are available elsewhere for free. I did at one time have a paid account for an RP journal so I could have more icons.

3. I do not feel my content would be secure. Despite not writing underage fiction, I am unclear on what might get banned in future.

I do not wish to support a company that seems to be selectively discriminating and not evenly enforcing a clear TOS, and insulting its customers.

4. It's too late. They've changed their tune and lied too many times already.

5. I've already moved. This journal is only being kept to monitor the downward spiral because I can't look away from a trainwreck like this :D

I also do not like the ads on journal pages. Initially when competing sites opened, LJ tried to talk people into staying here by criticising the ads on other sites. Those ads on other sites do NOT appear on content pages at all. Lj's now do.

1. How long have you been with LJ? My old journal dates back nearly four years.

2. Have you ever thought of getting a paid/permanent account? What prevented you from doing it in the past? I actually DID have a paid account on my old journal, and chose not to renew as I had less time for the internet, and did not feel the need to pay for something I would not use.

3. Why did you decide not to become a paid member now? (What is your biggest complaint?) To me, it's the double punch of "we don't want fandom porn" / "anorexia, Nazis, and hitting children is a-ok". I was actually reconsidering purchasing a paid account, as I am getting more and more active in fandom, and that's what tends to define how often I use the internet; as an active member of fandom, I'll end up wanting to pay for a service I use frequently. To have fandom smacked around like that - and then to see them DEFENDING pro-anorexia sites - is a slap in the face. Without getting too tl;dr, I'll just put it this way: fandom has yet, to anyone's awareness, to harm or kill ( ... )

1. On and off, for a number of years.
2. Yes, I had a paid account and was suspended. I'm only interested in sucking up Six Apart's resources now.
3. Lack of transparency around the suspension process in particular, around the operations of the local secret police (aka "LJ Abuse") in general, lack of clarity (and repeated reinterpretations) of the ToS. Just for starts.
4. Reinstate everyone who's ever been banned on grounds which aren't actually covered by the ToS, refund their money to folks who don't want to be reinstated at this point, public flogging for Barak Berkowitz, burr86 and coffeechica, and replacement of the entire management team. Again, just for starts.
5. Yes, I like wasting Six Apart's resources.

Summer of 2002.

2. Have you ever thought of getting a paid/permanent account? What prevented you from doing it in the past?

I have been a paid member in the past, for approximately two years. While I considered purchasing a paid account, I could never justify spending that kind of money on a journalling service. I stopped being a paid member shortly after Six Apart bought LiveJournal, as I was not impressed with the way Six Apart had dealt with MovableType.

3. Why did you decide not to become a paid member now? (What is your biggest complaint?)

I simply do not trust Six Apart based on events surrounding MovableType and much more recent Strikethrough/Boldthrough events.

4. What can 6A/LJ do to win you back?- A clear terms of service policy, stating specifically what they do or do not permit their users to post on their servers/link to from their servers ( ... )
