Sweeney Todd was so fantastic! This version, with the cast being the orchestra as well, is specifically from the recent Broadway revival, and in fact most of the cast was from the Broadway staging too. It's one of my favourite shows. I am both excited and scared about the movie. :D

Neat! Yeah, I found the staging absolutely fascinating. I wasn't expecting such a daring approach to the story. It was SO good! Sweeney was an understudy the night we went, but still excellent.

The funny thing was that many people around us had bought their passes for The Sound Of Music and Dirty Dancing, and had no idea what to expect from this. We both thoroughly enjoyed it!

Tim Burton has been really hit or miss for me over the last 10 years. Mostly miss, in fact, with many of those being the Burton and Depp flicks. It's such a great story, but then, so was the Legend of Sleepy Hollow...

You're the second person to dis Music and Lyrics. I am much surprised. GMajor and I have seen it twice - once while covered in cheesy nachos - and enjoyed it both times. Sure, it's a fairly typical romantic comedy, but the music was great, there were some snort-worthy comic moments, and Third Rock's Kristen Johnston was outrageously funny in her big sister role. I don't ask for much else, really.

Clearly though, we have disparate movie tastes. I have seen none of your Best Movies and only a couple of the Worst (Fantastic Four - lame; Spiderman also lame). At least in that, we agree!

Well, anything is better when covered in cheesy nachos! I need to ask, was that uncomfortable for the other patrons ( ... )

No, it was all on me. We missed dinner and were in a rush, so I grabbed some nachos and cheese at the theatre...in those flimsy plastic holders. Moments into the movie, with one hand holding a drink and the other the plastic thingy, it bent in the middle dumping a generous helping of warm, melted cheese on my down jacket and in my lap (not as pleasant as you might think). I had no free hand and I had to sit there dripping until GMajor put down his snacks to rescue me. And what are those see-through napkins against melted cheese? No match at all.

So I figure any movie that can distract me from the cheese congealing in my lap is a good movie.

Grindhouse: Loved Planet Terror (and, oh my God, was that the perfect Schlocktoberfest movie, or what), but found Deathproof to drag. Haven't seen any of the others on your 'Best' list, although I'd like to.

On thw worst list: Should Fantastic Four be on that list? If it's pretty much a given that a movie is going to blow chunks going in, should it even get rated? I was thinking more along lines of "Movies I Thought Would Be Good, But WTF Happened?" I can't even think about the butler in Spider-man 3 without getting angry (the Completionist in me wants the DVD for my collection; the Movie Buff in me is outraged at the thought of such crap tainting my lovely collection). I found Pirates 3 to be a let-down as well (but we will still buy it for our collection, for it has Teh Johnny in it, and mrs_clubber does love Teh Johnny). I haven't seen Bourne yet (will be seeing it this Friday), but I'll be so sad if it sucks. As for Music & Lyrics... meh. It was enjoyable enough, but I thought there was zero chemistry between Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. ( ... )

Grindhouse: Loved Planet Terror (and, oh my God, was that the perfect Schlocktoberfest movie, or what), but found Deathproof to drag.I agree with you on Death Proof. I absolutely loathe the first hour of it. Tarantino's intent was apparently to make you love the girls at the beginning so that when they meet their fate, it's shocking. Well, it wasn't shocking at all. I found myself hoping that Russell would back up to make sure that he got them, and maybe do a few brake torques to ensure that the deed was done. The back half was fun. Tarantino is one of those guys that needs an editor to help curb his self-indulgent tendencies (I'm looking at you, Kill Bill. You were one decent movie split and padded into a six-hour snoozefest). Everyone talks about how he writes such great dialogue, and he really used to. Now, he's started believing his press, and thinks that anything he writes is gold. The first hour of Death Proof proves him wrong ( ... )

Of course you should go see Sweeney Todd in the theatre! It's Johnny Depp, and he *sings*... what more do you want from a movie??

And boo on you for putting Pirates on your Worst Movie List.

I think your love for The Johnny is clouding your judgement ;)

Let's face it, Pirates 2 & 3 were one decent movie, padded to a ridiculous extent (with tons of slapstick nonsense in 2, and tons of, well, characters standing around staring at each other in 3) and split into two horribly mediocre movies. Why? So that they could charge us twice. The first Pirates was fun, and just plain awesome. The two sequels were tedious.

But, that said, you may have convinced me on Sweeney, as Girliatchy loves the Johnny as well (although not so much that she didn't loathe the Pirates sequels even more than I did).

I actually enjoyed all three Pirates movies. I only look to be entertained when I go see a movie, and they both did that for me.

And shame on you for thinking that my love of Johnny clouds my judgement! There are movies that he's in that I dislike, too, I don't *love* everything he's in. Say... The Austronaut's Wife. Hate that movie. So there. :-P

Well, in my defense, there ,was a winky after the cloud remark...

I look to be entertained as well when I go to a movie, in my case, I wasn't. Like I said, "purely my opinion, your mileage may vary"
