The Raw Food Diet: Day 16

Feb 02, 2010 09:15

The Raw Food Diet continues, almost unabated. Weight loss is a concern, as I've lost a further 2 kilos, so I'm having to supplement with extra carbs. Jules made me poached eggs the other day (her suggestion, not mine, though I was keen), and I've been having four slices of toast before bedtime in the off chance I might actually store some of the ( Read more... )

I was losing weight like crazy before my diagnosis, about 1.5 kilos every few days (which is what sent me to my doctors).

Now, I'm back to my pre-diagnosis weight and stable. According to my oncologist, that is due to the cortico steroids I'm on which fixes my nausea and lack of appetite, and allows me to pretty much eat whatever I want, though really creamy things don't tend to agree with me.

i take half a tablet of dexmethasone every day. It has some side effects I really don't like (my cheeks are swollen, I have facial hair, my abdomen is swollen into a weird shape) but it controls my appetite and lets me stay stable.

I don't know if this is something appropriate to your treatment regime, but worth mentioning.

I was on dexy's for 6 months - hated hated hated them! they kept me awake for the week I was on chemo, and I'd be so fucked when I came off them at the end of the week I'd sleep most of the weekend.

My weight loss is due to eating only raw food (no carbs, no animals fats, no sugars). Just need to eat more! And more! And more!

Wow, i can't believe 4 pieces of toast at night can't help keep it on. What a pain in the bum. Is it slathered in peanut butter??

PS. There are carbs in your fruit & veg too...
PPS. You can chuck those chia seeds in your smoothie too for extra protein and omega 3s. Or to attempt more fattening up maybe chuck some cashews or almonds in there too - tis delish.

No, I've been avoiding the peanut butter a bit. Say if 8 pieces of toast are consumed, 1 is peanut butter, the other 7 are a no-sugar-added orange marmalade from France, with lots of rind. Not quite as good as Grandma's (nothing will be) but not bad for a shop bought one. (Actually bloody good for a shop bought one - it's Charles Jacquin).
