Okay. So I was all ready to perform Händel's Messiah earlier today with Cantemus. Except the director, Dr Mark Francis of ASA fame, pulls me aside and says that when his set-up people were preparing for today's performance, they didn't pull down the 29- and 26-inch tympani from the choir loft and that we shouldn't worry about that because a ( Read more... )

That's terrible! "Forgetting to bring down the timpani" is no excuse for kicking you out of the performance, and you don't tell a performer the day of a performance that he can't play. That's just unacceptable and totally not cool. :-( *hug* I'm appalled.

I agree! If anything, I should have been notified before I left for the church to play. If there's an up-side to all this, it's that I got more time to prepare for finals.

Ugh. Vanessa and I met for coffee after she was done performing tonight and I asked how it went and if she got to talk to you and she said she couldn't figure out where you were since you were supposed to be playing. If it's any consolation (I'm sure it's not), she said it was a rather poor performance and actually mentioned that the lack of timpani was lame.

Yay Vanessa thinking that the lack of tympani was lame! I sent Vanessa a message letting her know what happened, so let's hope she gets it.

This leads to a simple equation that I think we can all understand: Händel's Messiah - tympani = bad.

Neither do I. Someone not getting prepared enough is not cause for me not to play.
