Messiah...maybe not...
Okay. So I was all ready to perform Händel's Messiah earlier today with Cantemus. Except the director, Dr Mark Francis of ASA fame, pulls me aside and says that when his set-up people were preparing for today's performance, they didn't pull down the 29- and 26-inch tympani from the choir loft and that we shouldn't worry about that because a previous performance went well without it. So here I was, all ready to go, and I was stopped dead in my track. Disappointed? Yes. I could have had a team ready to go to bring them down; however, I think he really didn't want it.
As consolation, he did offer me comp tickets to the performance; I declined because I was rather embarassed and rather disappointed.
Oh well; such is life.
