Shelly introduced them to me and we were very avid readers (and watchers of the movies and Disney channel show "Avonlea"). I even read most of the other LMM I could find. Her Emily series was shorter but much more supernatural.
I still have all my Anne books at my Dad's house. I should dig around for them.
Yep. Love love love love love them. Read them over and over starting in the fifth or sixth grade, I think. I started reading Anne to Caleb (he watched part of the movie at Grandmother's and was interested.) He listens quietly enough until he falls asleep...anyway, I just re-read them on Literature.org a few months ago. They are still wonderful.
Is literature.org DLable onto a PDA like project gutenburg is?
I think I read AoGG when Shelly lent them to me, must have been in high school. I really don't remember well. I know I have read them and I remember Shell and Andrea being into Avonlea, but I never got into the moving versions of the books.
I can't remember when I read the books, but it was sometime in junior high or early high school. My grandma bought me AofGG and a lot of other classic books written mostly for young girls. One of personal favorites was Eight Cousins, which is similar to The Secret Garden in terms of themes. I still have all these books and hope to share them with the girls soon. I've tried reading Black Beauty (another of my favorites - I was really into animal stories as a young kid) to Erin, but she hasn't really been interested yet. Right now the girls are in to the If you give... books (If you give a mouse a cookie, if you give a pig a pancake, etc). I must admit I really like them too!
I read them three years ago for the first time, and absolutely devoured them. My only regret is that I hadn't read them at a younger age. Kira was given a nice set when she was born, and that's what prompted me to read them.
I devoured the Little House books over and over and over at a much younger age than AoGG. The Secret Garden and Little Women were favorites, too. I checked out all of the Haysville Library's Greek Mythology books at least twice. I know I read the Narnia books, too, but I don't remember them as well.
My mother used to reach under my pillow when she tucked me in to make sure I hadn't hidden a flashlight for late night reading. I got away with it for a long time before she figured it out. ;)

Erin will get interested eventually. Ella goes through spells where she's more receptive. Kids are funny.
