I think I am not the only one with the frustration. Another mommy also told me she faced the same kind of dilemma regarding communication with the teachers. On the one hand, we don't want to call them for every little thing; on the other hand, other (indirect) means of communication don't seem to get through.
i wonder if writing a note to pass to the teachers will help? since they dun want to listen to the students, just ask Dominic to pass the notes to the teachers then and hopefully he/she will read...
gosh...i am so not looking forward to primary schooling...but then...we have to continue to trust God and rest in His grace and promise that He will take care of the kids and He will and is teaching our kids...
haha.. reading this make me think of my mum. She was v.particular about the things teachers made the students do. and if she felt it was not needed or simply riddiculous. She will ask me to tell the teacher to call my mum if they've got a problem with it...
but it worked really well when my mum kept calling them, if they refused to listen.

He can lah. Anyway, how difficult is it to say 'my mommy said no'? I did call the teacher in the end and boy, it was so difficult to get through to her. Not the phone. Her head. Explained until mouth dry.
That was what I did. The problem is that the teachers have this habit of brushing off the students with 'I don't care', 'Don't give excuses' kind of response and refuse to listen to the kids!
the problem in this school is that the teachers are mostly not proactive. If there are some things that you are not happy with, you have to call them. Usually they will think that it's the kids who are trying to give excuses, so you have to let them know that it's you who have asked Dominic to say those things.
If after giving your feedback to the teacher and yet the same thing happen then you have to bring this up to the principal.
Jaz's current teacher did not respond after i left many voice messges and emails, when I finally got hold of him, I told him quite firmly that such attitude is not acceptable. Now, he is more proactive and started to call me when he made Jaz stay back in school.
This is why I feel like I have to be like a 'gangster' and barge my way through. One of these days, I am going to give the Principal a piece of my mind on this. The nagging question, however, is whether Dominic will get 'marked' because of this.
my personal feelings is that they wun 'mark' kids with parents who give active feedback to schools. There are too many KPIs set by MOE, that the school can't afford to have parents complaint too much.
So far, Jaz wasn't 'marked'. The form teacher tried not to detain her too much nowadays, cause I told him that Jaz has swimming practices and I really do not want her to use this detention as excuse for not attending the practices.

I think it's best you write a letter/note to the teacher voicing why you do not wish to comply? And have her call you if she needs to further clarify?

Then, the problem "disappears".
heh.
