Funny story of the week... someone in Woolworth's marketing team had an idea that Lolita is a good name for a 6 year old's bed... oh the hilarity.  I'm "amused" by some of the comments on the various reports of this news item.  The outrage is perhaps understandable, the laughing at Woollies is expected.  The "get a life" comments crack me up.  I ( Read more... )

I think the southwest will be interesting for Obama. California, Arizona and New Mexico have giant Hispanic communities that don't necessarily get along with African Americans. We can talk about the southeast being racist, but the southeast also has very large African American populations that can show up to vote.
These are indeed interesting times.

Racism from (other) minorities always shocks me... I can't for the life of me understand that mentality, but then I can't really understand racism at all.

I was too young to have any serious views when the UK had it's first woman PM... I had plenty of views about her by the time she left office... none of which were based on her gender! I wonder how race would affect voting here, none of the main parties have ever had a leader other than WASP.

The good thing about race relations in the UK is that none that I know of has attempted to burn, shoot or lynch the other. Not saying there aren't problems, I've been there enough to know that it isn't true. But this country is a mess.

Had Barack Obama's father been born in Chicago or Detroit or Mobile instead of Kenya I don't think he would be electable. Obama doesn't have the guilt of slavery associated with him.

Speaking from the southeast's perspective, I've heard a lot of black people say they aren't voting for Obama because he's Muslim, so they're voting for Hillary. I know a lot of white people who are voting for Obama because they don't trust the Republicans and they don't want another Clinton in the office.

I'm putting on my sappy face now.

It's a great day in Birmingham, AL, because a lot of us are out voting when we normally don't bother because we're so sick of how things are and we're all wanting change.

It's America at its finest, and it goes to show we're not all completely brain-dead.

Damn - I forgot about the whole "Muslim background" thing - that's sure to affect the voting even if it is a bunch of tosh! There was a report in one of our papers about the importance of religion in voting in the states... which seems strange to the average Brit as religion and politics are kept relatively separate.

I'm disgusted at the levels of voter turnout here... we're lucky to get 40% of the electorate off their arses! To think there are countries in the world where people risk death to vote and they get bigger turn outs than we do. :(

Yeah, even though we have the whole "Separation of Church and State" thing going for us, it doesn't really apply anymore. I think the only rights we have right now is the right to bear arms, and...oh, we can't hoard British soldiers...and there may be something else lurking around that we can do without the almighty Christ Brigade coming to get us and take us away.

The whole world is pissing me off at the moment.

Go to one muslim school when you're overseas and suddenly you're a muslim. Like that's a bad thing.
