I'm checking tests, and one of the questions was "The monthly rent for an apartment is $825. What does this rent amount to for a year?"

I have a student who multiplied 825 by 365 and got 2,528,625, then did the same multiplication again and got 252,862,501,125, and finally, the third time, came up with her answer: 301,125.

This is just a link I look up every few years. I'm putting it here I guess to spare myself a year from now having 2 seconds of confusion about whether I need to google "Pierre Schaffer wasted life" or "Pierre Henry wasted life ( Read more... )

if a company advertises in their job postings that they have a "casual work environment (jeans, shorts, sandals)," what would you wear to the interview?

obv. i'm not saying i want to wear shorts, but do you think i could get away with nice pants and a dress shirt?

i guess i have a master's degree in mathematics now. that's pretty cool. in the oral exam today there was only one question that i flat out couldn't answer (necessary conditions for a continuous function to be an open map). i did pretty good with everything else.
