Clark was caught somewhere between being awake and still dreaming, and Lana just seemed to blend into it for a moment as he listened to her voice. Yeah, Lana. Good morning sunshine. Sunshine is good. It's really good, shame it has to...

Wait a minute.

His eyes popped open.

The first instinct was to scramble backwards, even if it meant a none-too-graceful tumble off the edge of the bed, but when he didn't feel the (unfortunately familiar) sting of Kryptonite, he froze. Sitting in his tangle of sheets he stared up at Lana, wearing his shirt, and beaming over a tray of breakfast goods.

"Lana?" he said, startled. He almost stammered.

His reaction made her jump back a little, and it was a good thing she was used to handling trays of food by now or it would have ended up a lot like her first day working as a waitress.

"Whoa! Sorry. Were you having a nightmare or something?"

He couldn't take his eyes off of her, positive he was still dreaming.

"No. Well. Sort of." Clark paused. "Just... didn't expect you to be standing there."

The wheels in his head finally started turning. He pushed himself up to sit straighter, budging over so Lana would have room to sit, looking at her for clues about what was going on. Something was different... her hair was longer? She wasn't killing him with kryptonite? She was wearing his shirt and possibly nothing else underneath?

This was too real to be a dream. Even one of those dreams.

Once he scooted aside, she carefully sat on the edge of the bed, one knee curled on the mattress while she set the tray between them.

"I know, sorry. But since we never actually got around to dinner earlier, I thought I'd make it up to you by disturbing your sleep at inappropriate hours. It made sense at the time. But I just figure you can sleep in, if you're even capable of something like that."

Reaching back to pull her hair over one shoulder, she tilted her head at him. "I ran into the Ninth Doctor while I was down there. You didn't tell me he was back."

He was pretty sure his heart was racing. She was so close.

"I can sleep in," he said. She didn't know if he was capable of it? "Or I can just skip sleeping altogether. I... this looks really good."

He was still looking at her as if he was waiting for an explanation.

"Nine only got back a couple days ago," he said. "Things have just been a bit hectic."

He cracked a smile.
