[how odd is it that Mary who just turned twenty herself is throwing a impromptu/planned thirtieth birthday party for her son? Kinda odd. However it's not quite as odd as it could be considering everything that had been going on around the castle. [Here, have a sociable!John being sociable...well, as sociable as he gets because hi, he's John Winchester. Having procured a couple of nice gifts that are now waiting on the gift table, John wonders exactly why he's here and not just wishing his son a happy birthday in private the way God intended...

...then snorts to himself and realizes that, even at twenty years old, Mary's still got him whipped.

So he mingles, he chats, he eyes the refreshments table and wonders if he can manage to grab a beer...maybe one of those cupcakes, too. Mostly he just waits for Dean to show up and tries to be polite...and of course, looks around for Mary and watches her a lot. It's kind of become his favorite pastime.]

[Soooo -- Sam hadn't been avoiding his father so much as not...putting in the effort to see him? Mostly because he wasn't really sure if John was really real, but also because, well, Sam had been kinda doing the whole psychic demon power thing back home and he was preeeeeeetty sure John wouldn't approve ( ... )

[Dean does show up soon enough, looking a mixture of happy (or that happy that tends to come out as smug-looking, anyway), embarrassed and surprised. He never expected to have a party thrown for him, didn't exactly /want/ one - at least, not straight off the bat - despite his joking about it last year. He and Sam... they'd never had parties when they were kids. The older they got, the more they'd become just another day. Parties were all part of the elaborate fantasy of another life ( ... )

[has decided to show up. doesn't plan to stay long, mostly just wants to mock the birthday boy and mingle a bit, but she gets side tracked by the food, and decides that eating something while she's hear probably wouldn't be a bad thing. makes her way over and starts looking over the cookies with interest.]

Dean must not have arrived yet. Most of the food is still intact. [said mostly to herself, but loud enough for Ruby to hear, should she choose to acknowledge.]
