[how odd is it that Mary who just turned twenty herself is throwing a impromptu/planned thirtieth birthday party for her son? Kinda odd. However it's not quite as odd as it could be considering everything that had been going on around the castle. Dean could've woken up thirty years old and a female, or in Sam's body... or in John's and really

...then snorts to himself and realizes that, even at twenty years old, Mary's still got him whipped.
So he mingles, he chats, he eyes the refreshments table and wonders if he can manage to grab a beer...maybe one of those cupcakes, too. Mostly he just waits for Dean to show up and tries to be polite...and of course, looks around for Mary and watches her a lot. It's kind of become his favorite pastime.]

Walking towards him, his smile grows as he resolves to make this party something good...not a chance to argue or fight. There's plenty of time for conflict (a thing he hates to admit he misses some...there's a secret sort of pride in how stubborn Sam can be, hard-headed as his mother), but not on Dean's birthday.]
Sammy...how you doin', Son?
[hey, novels are fun to read! :p]

I'm -- okay.
[is kind of at a loss for what to say now. He hadn't really thought past getting his father's attention, but aside from the fact that it's really, really good to see the man actually alive and breathing as oppose to, you know, a dead body and/or a disembodied soul type thing, he doesn't really have all that much to say.]

[About as lost himself here, John is, mainly because he's so happy to see Sam alive, well, and less than demon-y. It feels really good, actually, having the whole family here for Dean's birthday party...
Reaching out, he lays a hand on Sam's shoulder with quiet affection and smiles softly.]
Sammy...it's good to see you...really good. It's great, that we can all be here for this, y'know?

Nonetheless, leans into his father's touch with a small smile. God, he'd missed this on so many levels.]

Ain't that the truth.
[catches sight of Mary across the room and grins, pointing her out]
I kinda like the fact that you boys can see what a beaut your mom was when she was younger. Shows more now, but she was a lot like you when we were kids.

[follows his dad's eyes and frowns slightly -- that *wasn't* how he met his mom when he first got here. But then again, apparently the castle screwed with people sometimes. And it was still his mom. Surprised when John says he was a lot like his mom -- everyone always said he was like his dad.]
