Miles stirred reluctantly when he heard the quiet rapping on the door, heaving a deep sigh through his nose and sitting up. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he glanced quickly over at Hojo to make sure he was still there (which he was, and sleeping rather peacefully) before getting up and opening the door.

He blinked in surprise at the blue-haired man towering over him in the doorway. It took him a few minutes to remember the name that he'd associated with the face.

"Ah, Dias," he said, taking a step back to motion the man in. "I assume you're here for payment. Come in, Hojo's still sleeping."

Dias waited fairly patiently as the sleepy, somewhat-disheveled lawyer put the pieces together in his brain before inviting him in; the man had obviously just rolled out of bed so the mercenary was willing to cut him some slack. He stepped into the room (very nearly having to duck going through the doorway) before shooting a suspicious glance over at the occupied bed in which he assumed lay Hojo. But the man seemed to be asleep, so Dias mentally shrugged and discounted him.

"I've been wondering about the payment," Dias murmured, hopefully low enough to not disturb Hojo. It wasn't as though he particularly cared if the scientist got his beauty sleep given how badly he needed it, but he didn't really want the man listening in. "It seems like everyone uses different currencies here. I don't think either of us know how much I'd normally charge for my services works out in the currency you use."

"Well," Miles replied, being careful to match the level that Dias was speaking. "It seems to me that currency is treated the same here, reguardless of its origin. So name a price that you think is reasonable and I'm sure we can come to some sort of an agreement."

While Miles was remarkably well off in comparison to some of the others, he didn't like the idea of not having any sort of income. He'd have to find some sort of work, and soon.

Dias shrugged. Well, if that was what Edgeworth wanted...

"Back on my world," he said simply, "I usually wouldn't even look at a job that paid less than five thousand fol. Since I didn't do much for this particular job, I won't ask for any more than the minimum."

Miles could feel the color drain from his cheeks as he gave Dias a long, level stare. Of course, he had enough to cover the rather hefty fee, but the question was... was it wise to spend that much when he had no real source of income, or any idea as to how long he would be staying here?

"Perhaps we could negotiate this," he said, crossing his arms. "Perhaps, information could help lower the bill?" He smirked a bit at the mercenary's slightly puzzled reaction. "You looked a bit too perplexed by the buggy for me to accept that any sort of advanced technology is anywhere near normal for yourself."

Dias' eyes narrowed. Edgeworth was a bit more observant than he'd thought if he'd noticed the mercenary's bemusement, which he'd been doing his best to conceal. He was also more shrewd than Dias had planned on; making Dias exchange some of his fee for the information he wanted was a much better bargaining tactic than the swordsman had anticipated from him.

"Fair enough," he muttered, impressed but slightly annoyed as well. After all, five thousand fol was more than enough for only one person, but he had three other people to think about right now as well...more than he'd ever had to provide for before. "Three thousand, plus information. I can't go much lower than that."

He found himself shifting uncomfortably and put a stop to that immediately. He'd been planning on asking Edgeworth about the things he'd seen and didn't understand already, yes, but the way Edgeworth was smirking at him...suddenly it was a lot harder to admit his ignorance. Not when the lawyer seemed ready to rub his face in it. "So maybe you're right," he muttered, ( ... )
