JD Robb

How can JD Robb be so freaking awesome? How? *ponders*

After I finished the new "In Death" book "Promises in Death" I just couldn't leave Eve and Roarke's world... I had to stay there a bit longer and bask in the awesome-ness of this series, so I'm re-reading some of my favorite ones: so. much. love.. *happy sigh ( Read more... )

I just started her 5th book and OMG I LOVE. So many of my coworkers keep telling me to hurry up and read faster, because they've already read the latest book and can't wait to squeal over everything. I'll hear bits and pieces in the lunchroom and have no idea what they're talking about, because I'm still at the beginning.

Which In Death novels were your favorites?

*grins* There's a lot to squee over (34 books, people!) so I totally agree with your coworkers! ;-)

Ah, that's a tough question...each and every one of them brings something to the general storyline, but if I had to choose...let's see...

I think the first three books are the ones I re-read the most.
It's always fascinating to me to go back to the beginning after I read a new book in the series, so I always re-read (and love) those three.
Then there is Vengeance which is all about Roarke's past and it's definitely very...intense.
I love Holiday because I really like the mystery storyline there and also because the banter between some of the characters (I don't know if you know them all already, so I won't spoil you) is great.
I love Judgment and Betrayal because there's a lot of Roarke there, and because despite all the differences they have, it's clear that Eve and Roarke are made to be together.
I love Purity because there's an awesome ( ... )

Haha, it's ok, I do the same thing with a lot of my SciFi books. I also have a tendency to reread one or two Nora Roberts trilogies when I need a good dose of romance. :)

I know Peabody, Summerset, Feeney, Mavis, Leonardo...people on the police staff, and that reporter, Nadine. If there are more (and I'm certain there are), I probably won't be meeting them for a while, yet.

The only problem I'm having with the series right now is that I'm figuring out the plot within the first 50ish pages. I have to wait a while for the main characters to catch up, and it can be frustrating. Especially when things are so very obvious.

If there are more...

Yep. :-)

By the latest books they'll all be very tight, they're Eve's true family, the one she never had when she was a child.../gushy

Eeeh..I think it's pretty normal. In some of the books you already know who the killer/s is/are right from the beginning, I think the majority of the books are more about the how Eve & co. can solve the puzzle more than the puzzle itself...it's about the process and the dynamic between the characters more than the mystery itself.
Although sometimes the mysteries are quite good, too.

Okay, you've convinced me to give her a try. I have a hard time jumping into popular series that have been going for a while (which is why no Laurell K Hamilton or David Eddings for me) and would probably never touch a Nora Roberts but....you are very persuasive :D.

Do I need to start at the beginning or can I just jump in from anywhere?

Yay! *bounces*

Hopefully you won't be disappointed...it's nothing life-altering, philosophically speaking, but it's great entertainment and one of the best (and long-lasting) romance I've ever come across. :-)

OMG you have to start from the beginning! You'll understand and enjoy the whole series much better that way!

I do have all the books, so if you want to give it a try before actually buying stuff, just send me an email and I'll send them to you...

I can always use some entertainment. That kind of stuff is perfect for when I'm stuck on the bus - heavy reading + public transport does not do it for me!

Thank you for the kind offer! My library has the whole series, though, so I have put the first few books on hold to give them a try. You know, I think this might be the first time I'll start a series from the beginning!

You're alive! I'm alive! I got your wonderful Christmas card and failed to thank you. I've been "intermittently" accessing LJ. If you define "intermittently" as every several months or so.

J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts blows me away. While there's a certain pacing formula the In Death books follows, she injects character development and interesting tidbits into each one. How she writes 4 or more books per year and keeps it all straight is beyond me -- but I'm so very glad that she does.

I came over here to bug you because I'm having a QaF icon withdrawal since my two sources (you and sanami) have moved onto other pursuits. I thought I'd go and grab some of your caps to play with but they're gone. :( Are they available elsewhere? Or do you still have them? I would really love to spend some time staring at studying details of nekkid Gale and Randy. ;-)

Yes, yes. *nods*

Awww, crap! I just changed web host and I forgot to fix the links properly. Also, I forgot to download some of the caps (the better ones, sadly) on my HD. *iz retarded*
I fixed most of the links, but some of the caps are still missing (the early S1 ones)...I'll try to ask around if someone downloaded the zip files and still has them around...*sigh*

*loves*

I quite enjoy the JD Robb books as well.
My favorite things are the quirky things about the series - Peabody and Eve's challenge with technology (especially the vending machines).

Have you read the Eve Duncan series by Iris Johansen - you might like these as well.

I've never heard of her, but I was checking out her site and it looks promising (she sure writes a lot!).
I saw that her books are in the same "universe" but with different protagonists...should I read them all in order or just go for the "Eve Duncan" ones?
