Football, Prometheus, my new iPad and icon awards (they're totally unrelated)

Jun 11, 2012 22:25

+ For the first time ever, I have a vague interest in Euro 2012, for the simple reason that for every W, D or L prediction that I get right, I get 50p towards train travel. So far, I'm at a staggering 25% correct, so a whole £1.00!

+ I was going to post about Prometheus last week, but ( a one word summary )

sport, rl, questions

Ouch, I was going to go watch Prometheus - now I am having second thoughts (such a fantastic cast, though!!!)... Is it really a dead loss?

And I rather envy your sexy ipad, lady...

You might like it. I've never seen any of the Alien movies so I might have missed out on some details. And Fassbender was very good as Michael. It just really wasn't my kind of movie, and I found myself really irritated by the lack of answers and the direction it took. Plus there were some truly absurd moments that we were supposed to take seriously: I think I might have liked it more if it had taken itself less seriously.

I'm slowly getting used to typing on my iPad. I'm getting the hang of it slowly. And wow, the battery lasts so much better than my laptop!

Hmm, part of the reason I want to see it is because I'd like to see how it sets up the Alien movies (although it has been an age since I saw them, heh). I can imagine that without the background, it probably makes less sense...

Anyhow, who am I kidding? I'll probably be waiting for the DVD - I so rarely make it out to the cinema or the theatre!

If it helps, you definitely don't need to see it in 3D - I didn't, and the one person I know who did said it made very little difference. So the DVD is probably a good bet!

Thank you. I was wondering if it was just me that didn't enjoy it because my flatmates LOVED it and I just...

I can't tell you exactly what I wanted from this movie, but that wasn't it. Maybe I was too excited, maybe I thought it would be something different from the previews... I don't know.

I was just 'huh?' afterwards. So lame, and so many things that could have been answered but weren't. I went based on having seen trailers and thinking it sounded fascinating, but it was just a real letdown.

Also, running around after having your stomach cut open and stapled up? With just the occasional grasp of her stomach?!

It just felt kind of odd and unfulfilling and... flat. I have such a huge amount of affection for the first movies. I think maybe my issue is that they went in more of an odd, Alien4 direction than the pure scifi Alien or Aliens.

Ah, it's a shame it was disappointing when you liked the Alien movies. I actually thought it'd be much more interesting in a Sci-Fi sense than it was - I wanted to know more about the Engineers, and they just seemed to shut down every thread that could have got interesting regarding them!

Codswallop would be the perfect description of Prometheus. My brother and I walked out of the cinema going 'that was pretty shit, yeah?'

Everyone in the ladies loos after seemed unimpressed too, yet it's rated really high on imdb!

Thank you for coming up with the perfect word for Prometheus. I wish I could use it in conversation, but alas, most of my neighbors (me too actually) would have to look it up! I have a more regionally-specific one I've been using that seems to work well too: crap.

I can't imagine being involved any of the sciences, or engineering, or medicine, or even any kind of project management, and not be offended by that movie on a really basic level. So little of it made sense, it made me quite sad. My companion's review was basically: "wait for the DVD. and then skip it." The crowd fled from the theater in almost complete silence afterwards, at least in my neighborhood.

Codswallop is a very satisfying word, I find. Even if you're not familiar with it, there's something about it that just sounds insulting! *g*

I wouldn't have minded if the movie had been bad enough to be hilarious. I love really bad Sci-Fi movies, the ones rated 3 or 4/10 on imdb, with ridiculous plots and terrible special effects. But it was beautifully shot, and there was some good acting in it, but when the storyline and characters are that badly written, it's just painful.

The general consensus after the viewing I went to seemed to be thumbs down. People who wanted a horror movie were disappointed that it wasn't scary or gory enough, and people who wanted a good story didn't get it.

He struck the right amount of creepiness and almost-human-but-not-quite-there. Anyway, I'm now hoping to find fic on the further adventures (and bickering) of Elizabeth and David.

Exactly!

I did take a look on AO3 the other day, but almost all the Prometheus fic seems to be crossovers with X-Men!
