Football, Prometheus, my new iPad and icon awards (they're totally unrelated)

Jun 11, 2012 22:25

+ For the first time ever, I have a vague interest in Euro 2012, for the simple reason that for every W, D or L prediction that I get right, I get 50p towards train travel. So far, I'm at a staggering 25% correct, so a whole £1.00!

+ I was going to post about Prometheus last week, but ( a one word summary )

sport, rl, questions

codswallop

when I read that, I saw and heard the Queen saying it in my head. Doesn't get more British than that.

I'm seeing it tomorrow with a friend even though I'm not expecting much.

Love your icon!

It might end up being your cup of tea (I'm sticking with the British theme) - it just wasn't mine, which maybe made me more critical than I would have been otherwise. Plus I was expecting it to be brilliant - high expectations can be a bad thing.

I'm sure the Queen says 'wot utter codswallop'.

My one word review of Prometheus would have been "boring". It really did nothing for me and I almost fell asleep twice.

I wouldn't say I found it boring - more unsatisfying, really. I would have been quite happy to have slept through the alien fetus abortion scene though!

I'm in the minority here - I loved Prometheus. The reasons why would be long and varied, but I understand why people either love this film or hate it. I also think that if you've never seen the Aliens franchise that the film will seem more problematic. Despite Scott and the studio's assertion to the contrary, this film WAS an prequel to Alien and a certain knowledge of those films goes a long way with this one.

And Fassbender rocked.

Congrats on your Euro stats. I'm pretty sure that the only way that I'd get interested in most sports would be to include a monetary incentive ;)

I did wonder if it'd make more sense if I'd seen any of the Alien movies, but then from comments I overheard from the people leaving the cinema, I thought maybe it didn't answer questions they'd hoped it would. But I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Fassbender was excellent, definitely. His performance was the highlight for me.

My Euro stats aren't really very impressive - just by guessing I ought to be able to average 33% right, and I'm not even managing that! Maybe I'll do better tonight!

I'm not sure if seeing Alien and Aliens would clear up your questions (the rest of the franchise doesn't really apply), but it would provide some context for sure. The polar reactions to the film are a good thing IMO - indifference would be much worse. At least people leave the theater talking...

Ah, yes, nothing worse than a film people instantly forget!

HAHA. I sort of figured Prometheus sucked but I can't get out of seeing it as my hubby LOVES sci-fi and has already claimed it as our next film. I've dragged him to several stinkers over the years so I guess I'm due. I'll manage to get through with a little Fassbender :)

So if not Google/Gmail then what? I'm WAY peeved at this whole MONITORING DOWNLOADS thing here in U.S. and add to that the Google "lack-of-privacy" policy and I'm starting to feel all 1984. I like GMail and use the calendar A LOT so switching makes me anxious but if you know of a better email/calendar option I am all ears :)

Congrats on the nomination, you definitely deserve it!

Just try not to think too much about the plot/logic/character development, and concentrate on the effects and Fassbender, and you'll get through it! *g*

I still use Gmail, because I can't find a good alternative, but I don't stay logged in, and very rarely open it in Firefox which is my main browswer. So I've lost some of the advantages of Gmail, but it means they can't collect quite so much info on me! I've actually managed to sync my calendars properly at last, and even retrieved the lost info from last year, so I'm going to stick with my iphone/ipad calendar app and syncing it with Outlook - I thought it was related to Google calendar, as it uses my gmail email address, but I opened Google calendar and I don't seem to have an account with them, so I think it's all done through Microsoft (*hand waves vaguely*). Sadly, I can't offer you any suggestions, unless maybe the Outlook calendar would work for you?

Congrats on the nomination, you definitely deserve it!Thank you so much! Though I went to vote on the best overall poll ( ( ... )
