Help! ( Computer savvy folks out there, I have a problem with Norton Antivirus )

I just got a copy from isilya, but it's 350Mb. Is that suitable? (I know nothing.)

Thanks so much for the offer, but I'm looking for a small (~63 MB) version, that I can upload for dial-up users. I've got the larger version myself, but that's way too big for anyone on dialup to manage.

Hrm, I don't use Norton because I've never had any luck with it but I went and poked about on their support page and found this: Error: "The Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect driver could not be loaded . . . " when starting the computer.

Perhaps something there will help? If you do have to uninstall and it won't reinstall, I recommend AVG (http://www.grisoft.com) for Virus protection - there's a free version (although you may have to poke about for it) andit updates regularly. Sygate (http://www.sygate.com/) is a pretty good firewall too.

I am such a dunce - I didn't even think of looking at their site! Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that - I don't have time to try their suggestions now, as I'm heading back to work, but fingers crossed for this evening.

To be honest, their support site is one of the more annoying ones but it's pretty good once you get into it. Plus, as a tech support person, I have all these tips and tricks for getting things out of the internets. :g:

It worked! All I had to do was run Live Update (I normally leave it to run by itself) and restart the computer. All safe again! *sighs with relief*

oxoniensis, I've been getting the same message! I thought it was something to do with my licence expiring, but maybe not? I'll check out these links that have been very helpfully posted.

The suggestions on the link that Megolas provided worked for me, so hopefully they will for you too! Being without virus protection just isn't good.

Agreed! I ran Live Update too and it seems to have worked a treat. Thanks for letting me crash your thread! :D

I think it does slow things down a bit, but I tried a couple of different antivirus programmes before Norton, and suffered, badly. And as I've had no viruses since installing Norton, I'm playing safe and staying with it. But it's always good to hear other people's tips and favourite programmes, just in case Norton ever pisses me off!

(And the problem is now solved, nice and easy once I knew what to do!)

I adore Brussels sprouts! *g* But they are very much a love/hate thing.
