Help!

Help! Computer savvy folks out there, I have a problem with Norton Antivirus. When I start my computer, it tells me that the Auto Protect drivers can't be loaded, and that I should restart my computer. I've restarted it several times, and I keep getting the same message. I did a system restore, and went back a couple of days, which was before I had any problems, but that hasn't resolved the issue. Weird thing is, when I open Norton, it tells me that everything is running, including Auto Protect. But the icon in my toolbar has a red cross through it, and I don't get my usual pop-ups telling me that it's scanning things when I open files.

The one thing I haven't done is uninstall and reinstall, because I'm a bit worried about doing that. I bought this copy over a year ago, and just bought a new license for this year, rather than updating to Norton Antivirus 2005. When I got the license, the code had to be used within a certain amount of time, and I'm well outside that time. So, if I uninstall, will I have problems reinstalling? I'm not even sure that I've still got the code, as I had a different personal email address then. Is there something else that I could try first? Only I'm getting very nervous about being online if Norton's not fully operational.

For those who've been downloading SGA from me, I'm looking out for a small copy of 2.13 'Critical Mass' - I've tried shrinking avi files myself, but didn't have any success - so as soon as I find one, I'll break it down and get it uploaded. Still haven't managed to see the episode myself - I got the torrent started before 5 am, but it was on a major go-slow.
