Choose Your Own Adventure

I have gotten many letters in the past weeks that greatly affected my future.

Firstly there were the rejection letters from Oberlin and Swarthmore. Neither was entirely unexpected, but both were sobering. I suppose they made my choices easier, in some ways.

Second was the letter from Bard saying I was accepted. I have gotten nothing more from them ( Read more... )

friends, trees, things that make my life better, quinn, love, this summer, adventure, letters, travel, college stuff

Believe me, distance was one of my biggest qualms when I was looking at Wooster (along with the fact that they don't have Japanese), but I've been surprised at how well I've been handling it. Then again, I'm also a massive introvert who's very attached to my own little personal bubble and who spent most of high school in a state of social turmoil and wanting to get away from my friends. I don't know what your history of handling social transitions is, but I can hazard a guess that you'd miss your back-home friends a LOT more than I would, but I also think that you'd be a LOT better at making new friends here than I have been.

Still, the decision is yours. I'm just offering my two cents.

Since everyone's two cents was exactly what I was looking for with this post, that's completely fine.

It's not even that I'd be moving away from my at-home friends (as most of them have moved away from me and I'd actually be moving closer to Tappy) as it's I'd be moving further away from my already far-away friends and boyfriend, when I could be moving much closer instead. Although I probably will miss Liam like mad, but he's going off to California in the fall anyway, so that doesn't much matter. (In some ways, him moving in with me was the WORST idea, this year. Not exactly the best way to get used to being apart.)

I've never heard of pretentious people from Bard! In fact, a lot of my closer high school friends got into Bard as art students and they are literally the most quiet, caring, unciqueish welcoming people I've ever met.

Quick thoughts...
1) Unless things have radically changed in the college-entry process, you're going to need to make a decision relatively soon (May 1st?). So if you're going to visit Pitt, you don't have much time. Don't let indecision be your decision.

2) Being in Italy = good.
Being in Italy during hot sticky mosquito-laden overpriced prime tourist season = less good, but still better than not being there at all.
Being in Italy + Quinn = better
(Wish I could join you for a bit of it, but very unlikely.)
As soon as you have dates and rough itinerary, get me info, and I will pull appropriate maps/books from my Italy shelves.

If Colin, Raine and I get our act together, and if you get your driver's license, you could knock ten thousand dollars off of the Bard tuition in terms of room and board.

Penny,

I did happen to go to livejournal today, and I'm very glad that I did. I am also glad that I sent my letter when I did.

I look forward to that call. Really, there is not a lot of planning that we have to do if we don't want to. There are tickets to be found in april, before prices go up; there are train passes to be decide on; and there are good backpacks to be bought.

I am so excited that you say yes. I hope that we can live lightly, so that it will be easy to run after trains. I know that they have many fairy tales to teach us.

Love, always, always, always,

~Quinn

PS My only real complaint with Bard that I remember is that in their writing program, they want you to focus on not just one style of writing, but one genre. I thought that was strange, and that their classes were limiting for a liberal arts school. It is certainly worth checking out the classes, I think.

Oh hey I just left you a message but it might be just as easy, if not easier, to do it this way,

MOSTLY I am wondering things like where you will actually be to start with and where we will actually end up so that I can plan things like air fares.
