The door opens and a little girl comes crawling into the Inn, followed of course by a vigilant mother.

Laura looks cheerful but a bit tired this morning.

Turning one year old is hard work.

Sara, on the other hand, simply looks cheerful. A New Year tends to to that to people. Collins, having followed her in, quite agrees.

How about an uncle? Roger somehow stumbled into the Inn early in the morning, and is now sleeping off a hangover on the couch. Or he -was- sleeping off the hangover until a one-year-old started pulling at his pants leg. "mmmmwha?" Sitting up, he blinks at the light, then grins. "Hey, Laura. Happy Birthday, dearling."

She might not be talking yet, but she knows what she wants and that's to be the center of her uncle's attention.

Collins, having stealthily made off with one of Mark's other cameras, begins taking pictures.

Roger leans down, and picks Laura up, bouncing her in his lap. "So, have you been spoiled by everyone back home yet?" If anyone ever tells him, he will totally deny it, however, he's totally enjoying playing with his little niece. What? He can be adorable.

"If she wasn't, we clearly were doing something wrong." Sara ruffles Roger's hair.

"I don't think we were the ones trying to give her a guitar," Collins adds smoothly with a smirk.

"No, you were trying to give her a laptop. She's one."

"So?"

Pepper walks in, three champagne glasses in her hands and a tablecloth over her arm, quickly taking stock of her situation. Dropping them off on a table, her eye is caught by the two boys near the fireplace. Walking over, she smiles. "You're Lily's James, aren't you?"

"I am indeed, and very glad to be so," James replies, grinning. "Hullo, Miss."

"I'm Remus," the other boy introduces himself.

"Oh! You're Sirius' Remus!" Pepper grins. "I've heard quite a lot about you. All good, I promise." She turns back to James. "So, what are the two of you doing?"

Remus grins widely. "Indeed I am, and also very happy about that fact."

James glances at Remus. "We've been discussing something that happened while he and Sirius were split up -- Sirius's very foolish decision, not Remus's--"

"--and I told you, I'm not angry."

Laura is promptly picked up by her Uncle Sirius, who hands her mother a wrapped present with his free hand.

"Hullo, Sara. Birthday gift for your little Gryffindor."

"Gryffindor my ass. With her parents, she'll be nothing but a Ravenclaw." With Slytherin cunning and Gryffindorish tendencies to rush in where fools fear to tread (courtesy of her uncles Collins, Murphy, and Roger).

Despite her words, Sara grins widely. "What've you been up to besides no good?"

Get the feeling she's heard certain responses before?

"Turned 18 the other day. My birthday's the day before this pretty girl's," Sirius says. "And Ravenclaw's okay. I'd love her even if she was a Slytherin."

Coming from Sirius that means a lot.

"I know you would. And speaking of birthdays, here you go."

She tosses him a key. "That'll open the door to my world--into the Loft, to be precise. Remind me to take you and the others on a tour later."

Guppy has his own newly discharged little one nestled in a baby sling on his front. He approaches Laura first, to give her her present.

"Hey there little one." he says, passing it directly to her. If she can work out how to get the paper off, it's a large fluffy rabbit toy.

That done, he grins up at and waves at Sara.

Shiny stuff! Laura begins tearing with glee.

"Hey, you," Sara says with a grin. "And hi there," she coos at his son. "It's good to see you, sweetheart."

Alexander looks at her with his big blue eyes. Guppy smiles and hugs Sara gently around the baby.

"He got out of hospital yesterday." he says. "No more tubes eh Fry?" He strokes his son's hair gently.

"I can't believe it's been a year." he adds, watching Laura with a soft smile. "Ani just turned one as well, she took her first steps in front of the webcam for me."

Sara hugs him back before softly stroking Alexander's hair. "You're telling me--I can hardly keep up with her now that she's walking. With the two on the way, I'm thinking that Mark and I might want to invest in invisible fences."

She's kidding. Mostly.
