And as we say our last goodbye... I nearly do.

Martha Jones is leaving at last.

It's time. Far, past time. She waited as long as she could. Martha has her backpack ready, her antiboitics stocked up, and she's ready.

She's been ready.

Well, she would leave, but she has to say goodbye first to certain individuals. So she waits by the door with an Irish coffee in her steady hand.

Jack blinks as he reaches the bottom of the stairs and sees Martha standing there with all her things - and the ever-present Irish coffee.

He gets over the initial surprise - and worry and disappointment - fairly quickly, masking it all with a smile as he starts toward her. "Going somewhere?"

Martha looks up from her drink and hesitates before nodding, not sure why she feels so awkward... except that of all of the things and people in the Inn... Jack is the hardest to leave.

So maybe she does know why.

"Yeah. Figured... it was about time, you know."

Jack pulls up a chair beside her and sits down, as close as he can without seeming a little too desperate. A little too concerned.

"Probably true. Not like I can complain without being hypocritical, running back out into wars all the time..."

But it's different. For one thing, he can't die. He's much too aware of how mortal Martha is, and it scares him.

Martha sets her back pack down by the door and scoots her chair closer to him before taking a seat in it.

She's quiet for several moments before she looks up at him.

"I wasn't going to leave again until I found you, but I thought I'd better get ready..." Martha reaches her hand out to touch his knee, softly. "I had to tell you... thank you. For everything." She smiles, faintly. "I think you might be the most amazing person I've ever met."

The way he watched out for her through it all. Martha hadn't thought for a second that it would be the end, that she would die... not here, not with Jack looking after her like that.

"And I wanted to say that I'm sorry, too, for everything that I put you through, even though I know I didn't have any control over it. I still wish that you hadn't... been forced to see me like that. To have to worry like you did, put all your energy into that when the Inn should be... much more relaxing."

Angua stops a few feet from Logan, giving him a slightly baffled look. He smells different, like he's been somewhere she doesn't recognize, and for a while - except that the last time she spoke to him, he couldn't leave the Inn.

"Where have you been?"

Well, it's good to see her. Maybe she'll provide a nice distraction from thinking.

"Out. For once." And then Logan shrugs, because he realizes she'd figured out that much. "And not in Canada either. Some academy for mutant kids."

She snorts a little at his entirely unhelpful answer, and smiles, moving to pull up a chair facing him.

"I had guessed that. It's good that you were out. Though I didn't figure you for the school type."

Logan sighs.

"Yeah. Well. You're right. I ain't going to it. I'm just there cause some kid thought it'd be a good idea to stow away in my car after I got kicked out of the bar." He shakes his head. "And then some guy called Magneto goes 'n sends his lackey to try and kill me. Next thing I know these mutants in leather outfits with a jet show up and we're headin' for their little school."

He's leaving out the fact that he was unconscious for most of this.

"Excuse me, miss?"
Depending on how sharp Martha's memory is, she might recognize the young man addressing her - or his face, anyway. But his voice has none of that pure resonance to it,* and even if the music had an appetite as humans understand them, it wouldn't eat vaguely dubious fish and chips.**
Martha's just the lucky person sitting near the front door.

*In fact, he sounds more vaguely Welsh than anything.
**To be fair, Imp wouldn't either, only he forgot to bring lunch with him. At least he didn't have to pay for it.

It's been a very long time since the music incident for Martha. His face seems very familiar, but she can't exactly place it at first.

And then she does place it and she can only mutter a soft, "Not again."

She raises her eyebrows, however, because he doesn't sound the same and it's not as if she's afraid of the Music. Not anymore. Still she's not about to take her chances so don't mind if she keeps her distance and doesn't let her guard down.

"Erhm... Yes?"

"Do you... know what this pllace is, or who added it to the break room?"
He doesn't know what 'not again' is all about, but perhaps a chance to ask will present itself.

"It's the Inn. Between space and time and-" Martha frowns and folds her arms across her. "You... mean you haven't been here before?"

Certainly, not the Music.

Five slips out of his TARDIS in time to see Martha settle near the door with her coffee. There's great relief on his face, because really, the last time he saw her she was in terrible condition.

"Ah, Miss Martha Jones!" He smiles and approaches her, "On your way out again?"

Martha looks up and smiles at him.

"Yes, Doctor. 'fraid it's long past time that I was on my way." She's never one that could sit still for very long, even on doctor's orders. "Thought I'd stick around long enough to say my goodbyes though." Especially headed back into the world that she currently lives in. "How are you?"

"Oh, I'm quite well, thank you."

Five smiles widely to her, even goes so far as to pat her arm lightly, "You take care, when you go. We'll have to take another adventure sometime, perhaps even a bit of tea, too."

"Glad to hear that, Doctor." The light pat makes her smile widen. "Oh, yes, when I come back, I think it'd be nice to go on a trip in the TARDIS again." She laughs a little. "Tea must always be involved, of course."

Martha takes a slow sip of her drink.

The Doctor noticed Martha some time ago but never approached her, at least not yet. He doesn't quite know what he was waiting for but it was definitely something.

Finally, after sitting there for quite some time and realizing that perhaps he was just putting things off, he gets to his feet.

"Going so soon?" It's meant to sound light and evena little teasing and it does, at least for the most part.

A helpless wave of emotion hits her at the sound of his voice.

Martha works her lower lip beneath her teeth for a moment before looking up from her drink and nodding with a little smile.

"So soon? Feels like I've been here for ages." She really isn't one for sitting still for very long. "I've got... things to do after all." A world to finish travelling/

He already knows that, of course.

"Probably have," he thinks after a moment. "Always tend to lose track of time in this place." A laugh. "That sounds bad, doesn't it? Probably shouldn't be losing track of that, all things considered."

Shoving his hands deep into his pockets, he looks to the backpack. "Got everything you need in there? Medicine, food and all that?"

He's doing his best to keep the conversation light, at least for the moment.

Martha smiles, a little. "No, you probably shouldn't... but I don't think anyone could blame you for it here."

She glances at her backpack when he does and nods.

"Yes, 'course. Mostly food. And my antibiotics, I've still got to take them for another month or so." Stupid TB. It means she can't afford to lose the backpack or have it stolen or set it down for a moment, not for that month.

Losing the antibiotics means getting sick again and she definitely can't afford that.
