Feb 06, 2011 21:26

So, another request of Awoi by abeltocain, as well as a personal interest of mine.

And heck, [trying to hold back in my ways of expression myself right now] I fell in love with the lyrics. Like, seriously. So much about Otogi's lyrics being all understandable and without a lot of chifres, haha. abelcain is quite littered with cryptic images and expressions that are shot at you with very little/unclear context, it's like ambrosia to my soul, hah.
So I guess I don't need to mention that now, after trying to translate it, my head is practically smoking. However, I really quite love the song. Madly, maybe [Might add a link to the PV as well]. I'll try my best to explain what I think he might be saying, while interpreting as little as possible.

I got the kanji-lyrics from the single's booklet, however they were so tiny, I ended up comparing them with a version abeltocain found online, and the song itself. Romaji and translation are, as ever, by me.
Notes are at the end of the post, and English parts are in italics in the translation.
I will revise the entry if needed, once I get bigger scans of the booklet.

Don't repost without linking back to this post, and please drop me a message if you do, thanks ♪

「love me like like an end」と消えて,愛を繋いで,嘘にならない程に。

slowly…

「love me like like an end」と消えて,愛を繋いで,嘘にならない程に。

abelcain [0]
A sad conclusion streams towards and into pre-established harmony. [1]
Died out affection drops to the bottom of deep distortion.
The adhesion towards self-love is the wound at the extremity of endless masochism. [2]
That person's betrayal cut up something in place of the knife.

(see 1) / [3]

My heart cries abelcain, sad liar cry.
Hold me, disappearing reverberation far away. [4]

Saying "love me like an end", you vanish, fasten the love, to the extent that it will not become a lie.
I stretch out my hands, pause, again it became a wound, therefor tears, beyond the glass. [5]
The sadness that adorns the end is a rondo.

slowly…

If this is the result of the sentiments having continued to being ignored, inside of the darkness of my lifetime's purgatory. [6]
I shall live clinging to the happiness that suddenly disappeared in an illusion that day, that place. [7]
And the samsara of self-love and masochism, it does not demand things like definite love.

My heart cries abelcain, sad liar cry.
Hold me, disappearing reverberation far away. [see 4]

Saying "love me like an end", you vanish, fasten the love, to the extent that it will not become a lie.
Embraced by you, it became strange, in this world that cannot move. [8]

Stir me up, rock me, love is left behind. [9]
I stretch out my hands, pause, again it became a wound, therefor tears, beyond the glass.
Love is beyond the glass.
The rondo of sadness that does not know an end.

notes
[0] The song is likely to be written in the POV of a woman. I say 'likely', because there is only one hint it might, that being 'anata', which is more commonly used by women than by men.
[1] Pre-established harmony → wikipedia.
[2] Just to clarify, I understand jigyaky as self-masochism, being masochistic in the way that you are a sadist to yourself.
[3] The part he changed in the third line, in case I got it right, then it means "The adhesion towards self-love is the scattering at the extremity of submission."
[4] Apart from reverberation, yoin can mean a lot, like suggestiveness, aftertaste, lingering memory.... Choose for yourself. Also, although "hold me" sounds quite tame, daite actually can be understood quite forthrightly as "have sex with me".
[5] About these two lines - their kinds of sentence patterns reoccur a couple of times in the song. They could be interpreted quite differently, either as a chain of events, or as imperatives, or both. So it could be "Stretch out your hands, pause..." just as well.
[6] The last part is probably "then I am inside…" but he omits the noun.
[7] He doesn't say explicitly say "I", so it could be 'let us live' as well.
[8] Cannot move, or maybe work as in "function".
[9] Sexual images. Also, just like in [5] depending on how you'd interpret it, it could also be stirring it up, rocking/shaking it…

(1) The first part is being repeated, however, Otogi sings something different for the third line. I tried to understand what it might be, and came up with something that might or might not be it. What I hear instead of owarinaki jigyaku no hate ni kizu, is something like owarinaki kifuku no hate ni kifu. Absolutely no guaranty. See [3] for the translation.
(2) He sings rondo instead of the Japanese rinbukyoku. It's the English equivalent.

My adoration for lyricists automatically skyrockets when they make me think it necessary to write more than five notes for a song, haha. Well Otogi, well done.

I can't guarantee for that my translation is right (when can I ever), but I sure hope it's not totally wrong. I just translated it, so I might happen I revise it at a later point of time.
